That slide hammer is genius even though it's a lot of effort for a single use. The bearing is already gone, I think welding directly onto it would have worked, although you can't really see on the video how small the space is. Heat would expand the race too, but wait for it to cool down before trying to pull it out.

All that work is crazy- just put a piece of metal in and weld to old bearing race - pull it out in four minutes total- you would be fired for wasting time- I’d have the job done before you drilled the hole

Better to use wax stick

They have a tool that's like an easy out but with a hole and a grease zert.

On the "slide hammer", I would have stopped at the cross piece and thread a bolt through an inverted "U" to use as a puller.

Very clever, but a lot of work considering how inexpensive a decent blind bearing removal kit costs.

Using grease, perfect diameter solid pipe and a heavy duty hammer did it!!!

Wonder bread works just as good as the grease. a little grease down in there first and then start shoving in the bread. it's less mess

That's not a bearing puller, it's a bearing "race" puller and they already manufacture these. You can get them at harbor freight for less than what you spent on materials. You've taught us nothing but how to waste time, 0/10 for your "hack". Better luck next round.

Packing grease first, punch with anything round but solid that has a fairly tight fit to the inner bearing shell and hit much with hammer, HAS NOT FAILED me 1 times in 40 years

One problem with this slide hammer is it is limited to nearly one size. Great ingenuity though. Acetylene torch is easier and faster if you don't gouge the bore. Sometimes welding a bead inside the race can pull enough to relieve the interference.

I remember learning this trick about 20+ years ago, used many times. My father read about it in a 1950s mechanic book how to remove these types of bearings

Use wet toilet paper instead of grease. Much easier clean up.
