Sound IS healing! And trumpets universally “sound the Call.” I have a wonderful coffee table book from the 90s — Material World. It’s full of pictures of families from all over the world. They are pictured with ALL of their material goods. The Tibetan Buddhist family from Bhutan is pictured with the clothes on their back, their working and cooking tools — and their tools of worship INCLUDING TRUMPETS!!! The shorter ones were traditionally made of a human thigh bone (now metal) and they remind us of the impermanence of existence and the truth of dharma and “the Way.” The very long ones — usually kept by monasteries — make a low sound, often likened to a lowing cow, to remind us of our mother’s womb. It’s interesting to me that the Swiss have long trumpets like this, too, and I speculate whether these mountain cultures are obsessed with breath? Or communicating over the distances of isolated communities? Or admiring of the way sound rings from the mountains? Or all of this.
