The 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season was an an average season in terms of activity however brought to it one of the costliest seasons on record mostly due to the destructive powerful Category 5 Hurricane Ian and strong Category 4 Hurricane Fiona and other category 1 storms throughout the basin. There were 14 Named Storms, 8 Hurricanes, and 2 Major Hurricanes ending the 6 year streak of above normal activity within the Atlantic basin however continuing the trend of destruction and powerful storms within the US, Gulf Coast, and throughout the basin starting with Matthew in 2016.
