What if you use RTSS to cap to a number that's well under the refresh rate, say 100 fps on a 144Hz VRR monitor? Would that get rid of the inconsistent frame pacing?

I still hope, we can get a proper Dawn of War successor. This game was one of the best in genre, with it's 2 and 3 not even close to the 1st one.

Absolutely loved Age of Mythology. My best friend and I spend so much time playing that game when we were teenagers. So much fun and the setting was so cool and different than other rts games.

Can you trick it to lock to 60 Hz by doing 120Hz screen mode and then v-sync half refresh rate?

I prefer this review than ign's salty review on Age 3 DE. Much better thought out! Somehow the water in the original Age 3 game looks better, especially the waves along the coastline, and the destruction physics on the original is better than the DE, which the Age 3 DE's destruction animation was based on Age 2 DE's one.

The weird fps caps might be due to the tick rate of the logic in the original game, which is more difficult to alter than visuals.

I'd go and claim that it was Total Annihilation that brought and made 3D popular in RTS games.

The priest ability was changed in one of the expansions of the original game. They’re just baking that down into vanilla game now.

back in 2005/2006, I played Empire Earth II more than Age Of Empires III, along with Warhammer 40K Dark Crusade, those were all amazing games that time

Yes, a game focused on the period of history that saw the growth of great colonial empires no longer has the word colonial within it - the Colonial age was renamed to the Commerce Age, Colonial Militia were renamed to Revolutionary Militia. Plantations were renamed to Estates, the Discovery Age was renamed to the Exploration age, and - most puzzling of all - Light Infantry was renamed to Shock Infantry. Meanwhile, the Sioux and Iroquois have been renamed to use the terms they referred to themselves as (or, rather, the Iroquois have - the Sioux were just renamed to the Lakota, who are not the only Siouan people to exist). This was done in the name of inclusivity. The old names did not prevent these empires from being added in the first expansion a decade ago, nor did it prevent anyone from getting into the game; I also reject the idea that the new names make the game more historically accurate. Not just because there is nothing inherently inaccurate about an exonym, but because of how selective the application of these changes were.

Generals Zero hour needs a defintive edition

My only issues with with the textures is the colored bits that show off team colors are less detailed, especially on units. It's all flat with no variance in luminosity, such as no creases in the cloth.

I used to play this underrated AoE title on a prebuilt office machine with no external GPU and a Celeron CPU, and somehow I still remember it being quite beautiful. This remaster does seem to remind me of the feel, but given how old it is at this point, I would expect a bit more. A remake, even.

AoE2DE looks better than AoE3DE - Change my mind

Interesting that they ignored both the opaque shoreline and the fact that character animations now look like they're missing a frame.

homeworld was not the first 3D strategy game

AoE2DE is a masterpiece, but I'm not sure AoE3DE is worth it for the small changes over the original.

I wonder if they fixed the water issues yet? Like the transition at beaches being harsh, which needs to be soft/smooth like og.

I noticed some graphical issues in this review that i still encounter on the latest version of AoE3DE like the water edges in the cutscenes still not fully rendered and the weird water lines when you’re panning the camera around water surfaces like weird dark shadow spots that follow the camera in the water. Hard to explain but if you turn the graphics settings to high or very high these issues become apparent

Can I play age of empires 3 on an acer aspire 5 laptop? If anyone knows this would give me the confidence to buy the classic and definitive editions asap I miss this game so much !

I'm not a fan of the changes to the sand textures and some of what they did with the water. It's a mixed bag for me. I actually have this Definitive Edition but find myself playing the original AOE3 more.
