I found out that a good friend of mine had died and that he had requested this at his funeral. I had never heard it before as I'm not a classical music buff but now that I've heard it I know why he requested it. It's just so beautiful and haunting. I often listen to it and think of him. Helps to bring back good memories of him.

the perfect companion piece along with delia derbyshire's tape loop rendition of bach's air. one based on recordings and tape loop oscillation to create resonant pure tones, the other based on synthesis. a good illustration of the rapid progress of electronic music innovation in the 20th century.

Hi Pete. Dave here. Fantastic Purple picks, and both are coming up on my list. My pick today is a bit left-field. It's SNOWFLAKES ARE DANCING by TOMITA. This Japanese musician's really imaginative synth interpretations of classical piano pieces (often called 'tone paintings') by French composer Claude Debussy. I bought this at the time, and as well as a great listen, it served as ideal ambient mood music. The whole world of synthesiser soundscapes opened up for me and others at this time. Favourite tracks are the blissful Clair de Lune and the vivid, playful Arabesque No. 1. Over the years, I have come to prefer the original piano pieces by Debussy, but this album is so close to my heart.

My dad had a lot of interesting CD's i liked to listen to growing up. This was one of them. Claire de lune has always been a favorite of mine, and I liked this track the best. Come to think of it, i had a crazy dream of making Fantasia-like animated sequences to the whole album. In this track, I imagined an old farmer out at night, looking at the stars, when he's visited by friendly aliens. They put on a light show for him, and bid him farewell. Takes me back to memories before i was sucked into social media, and had only my imagination
