Anitaaaaa! Great convention.
ОтветитьWow, what a treasure this is!! To see THEE Marvin Hatley playing piano, including L&H theme song. And Anita Garvin sharing her memories and stories about the Boys. Just extraordinary. You did an excellent job, Gary! This is a must see for all L&H fans and lovers of classic film.
ОтветитьTrudy Marshall is not in this film. She was not at this meeting in 1979. Anita's husband Red Stanley is in the film wearing a cowboy hat. But I cut out other shots of him in an earlier version. He had passed away during the editing of the film. I knew it would be difficult for Anita to see him on the screen so soon so I cut out those shots. Someday I would like to edit them back in, along with a couple other questions she answered from the group.
ОтветитьWonderful ! That's the kind of party I like !!! Marvin Hatley what a Guy !!!!!
ОтветитьFantastic footage...Terrific upload! Thanks for posting it.
Ответитьwow!! Great footage! I was probably at this meeting. I moved to LA in 1978 and joined the Way Out West tent very soon after that. I almost never missed a meeting! So great to see Anita again. She was awesome (before we used to use that work all the time!) Thanks for posting this!
ОтветитьI'll never forget how great it was to have T. Marvin at all our meetings playing away! We sure were lucky !
ОтветитьFor the first time in over 100 years, you can read their complete story in "ARTHUR AND NORVELLE: THE FORGOTTEN AND REAL LEGEND OF LAUREL AND HARDY" (just out on Amazon), visit all their places - and watch their movies (free!) - as all details are in the two NEW books, and you don't even have to leave your seat......Just Stage One of the far bigger "DECODING LAUREL AND HARDY PROJECT" philanthropic aims - and all profits from the book sales go to this Project! See arthurandnorvelle.yolasite.com.
ОтветитьThank you for uploading!
Ответитьshe lived till 1994,would loved to have heard more stories
ОтветитьThis is so great. Thank you very much for shearing this.
Hope It's ok that I downloaded it for my private collection.
It looked like a nice convention back than (almost 38 years ago) Laurel and Hardy and all the people arround them were very special ....something you dont find today anymore
ОтветитьIt´s great to see that true art will always find its way of surviving new times and media. Ms. Garvin was 72 at the time of this celebration and so many fans were there, young and old. All because of the wonderful movies she was in, along with Laurel and Hardy.
ОтветитьI wonder whether this "Sons Of The Desert" fan club still exists. Does anyone know?
ОтветитьWhat a beautiful and extraordinary woman.
ОтветитьI just saw Anita Gavin in the Hal Roach Thelma Todd/Zasu Pitts short "Show Business" (1931). She sees a picture of herself in a full page ad in Variety calling her the Star of stars and says, "That's Terrible." She complains that is a small ad like that is okay for the little stars like Gloria Swanson and Ethel Barrymore, but not for a great star like her. She is hilariously egotistical.
I googled her and this came up. Great footage. I didn't know that she was the girl in the pie fight scene. I loved her in "Blotto."
Terrific stuff and Anita still has those marvelous eyes that shot fear into Stan and Ollie in several of their classic shorts.
ОтветитьI always considered her one of Hollywood's most beautiful women. Tall, elegant and sassy- what more could you ask for. Nice footage of her in her later years. Vestiges of her once stunning beauty still shone threw.
ОтветитьWhat impresses me most in this video is Marvin Hatley's extraordinary musical talent.
ОтветитьAnita hasn’t changed greatly in 50+ years...she’s just aged very gracefully.
Ответитьstunning eyes she's got
ОтветитьAnita garvin you are beautiful , when you were the old laurel and hardy films...kevin
ОтветитьGod, I would have loved to been there. I was taking a lot of cinema and theater classes at Chapman College, in Orange. I was always on the Santa Ana Freeway, going to a Little Theatre production. I saw a lot of TV actors in those plays, met some of them. KPFK was my heaven. I would have gone to this. Somehow I missed it. I'm 66 now, on the island of Cebu... A long story.... And a nice mess...
ОтветитьGreat video. I would've loved to have been there.
ОтветитьSempre gostei de ver Anita nos filmes de Laurel e Hardy amo demais!!
ОтветитьShe's absolutely gorgeous in "Blotto".
ОтветитьShe came into Thelma's apartment stealthily, closed the door quietly behind her, turned, looked around, put a finger to her lips and said "Got an onion?" I had to look up the actors name. That was the first time I noticed Anita Garvin.
