I wouldn’t even think about lifting until after a couple months and start off light. Who would want to go through this surgery again. No thanks. What’s the rush?

So it sounds like he specifically avoided the Shouldice Hospital because someone in his family had a bad experience with it? He considered no-mesh surgery and chose against it.

Bro, my life really sucks, before surgery i was diagnosed by right side inguinal hernia and i saw many bodybuilders who are lifting perfectly fine after the surgery, i was highly motivated and went for a surgery and unluckily dr found that my left side is also weak but it’s not swelling so not going for a surgery, they said you don’t have to lift weight for life in order to cure yourself for second surgery

Hahhaa oh god how can i survive without gym for life
Now my parents advise and dr advise don’t do gym for life because you will develop the left one and if you went for second surgery in 25 then how will you manage in you 50s
I have met hundred of peeps saying bro you will have issue while intercourse

Don’t know what’s going on!!

This is super informative and reassuring. I am 4 months post open mesh repair. Got back into spinning classes but still holding back. Avid life-long hockey player, nervous about getting on the ice. Surgeon gave green-light but was like.."I think it's fine but who knows." (which didn't ease my anxiety). You mentioned you avoid the twisting abdominal exercises...immediately made me think about slap shots, skating, etc (which gave me more hesitation). Any chance you play hockey?!? Would love some input!

You mentioned a couple of exercises that you avoid now post surgery because you were concerned they put too much strain on the area. What about Turkish getups with kettlebells? Are those dangerous as well?

I'm on my 7th day of recovery, honestly it wasn't a bad recovery at all, I got the laposcopic method. The first 1-2 days were kind of bad but by the 2nd and 3rd day I was up walking around. My doctor said don't lift anything over 10 lbs for 6 weeks so thats what I'm gonna stick to, I'll probably take it slow getting back into it.

Hey guys, im now 3 months post surgery. First month i did 0 activity, second month i started shadow boxing and push ups while wearing compression belt. 1.5 months in, i added lifting light weights (isolation movements, no compound movements) also added cycling, 25-30km/h and added planks too. I progressively increased my planks and now i can do 5 min. I stopped wearing the belt by end of second month and never weared it during planks. I started doing weighted sit ups by this time as well 2-5kg max. By end of 3rd month, i added swimming. It has been a week now and i feel great. Will get back to boxing training next week so that’s exciting. I used to wrestle before the surgery but i will give myself one more month until get back to that. Will keep u posted.

I had inguinal hernia surgery with the mesh. I noticed once I started lifting again I'd get some muscle soreness in the lower ab region where the mesh was placed. So I just made sure not to overdo it and give the area adequate time to rest before I'd lift again. I guess that soreness is normal. The muscle there also feels tight. I'll just have to restrengthen and stretch it slowly with time.

Great inspiring vid! I also have an inguinal hernia and am from Canada. I'm trying to decide on my options. Did you opt for a mesh? It's a great ongoing controversy, mesh or no mesh? Was your operation robotic? If your from Montreal, what hospital did you go to? Thx and good luck!

23 years old, high level taekwondo athlete here…I just had open bilateral inguinal hernia surgery in fort Myers Florida by Dr Tomas doing the desarda no mesh repair….didn’t want mesh, heard lots of bad things about it… plus don’t like the idea of foreign. Objects…..I Had two indirect hernias and 1 direct.

I’m 2.5 weeks post surgery. Doing a little better everyday. I just hope and pray my sports career isn’t over and I can make a full recovery…. Sucks that this happened to me so young… just want to be able to return to sports and intense exercise/ soccer.

I just had my laparoscopic mesh hernia repair 3 DAYS AGO. This is a fantastic video. The first two days was the worst but for sure the 2nd day was worst than the first.

Somethings that i don’t think people talk about is at least for me how DIFFICULT IT WAS TO SLEEP. My Oura ring and garmin clocked me at less than 2 hours of sleep for those 2 days. So a combination of the discomfort with poor sleep is what made it really unbearable. Now on day 3 I slept so good. And I am able to shower. I’ll follow up on here if anyone has any questions. But at 7 days I want to try and get 8-10k steps and my doctor says by week 3 I should be able to start jogging/ running

Week 6 to start lifting

Is anyone watching from Pakistan? My hernia surgery was done in Mian Nawaz sharif government hospital. Believe it or not, the doctor didn’t even consider it necessary to check afterward whether the operation was successful or not. After just a short time, I developed a hernia again.
My hernia repair surgery was done by Dr. Syed Imran Andarbi sb from Omer hospital jail road Lahore. It has been 6 months since my surgery, and I am fully recovered now. If you can afford, you should consider an experienced doctor for such complicated surgeries.
