In 1986 my MIL sent me a bill for utilities. We stayed with them for about 1 month. I bought most of the food while we were there. It was $100 for the bill

It reminds me of a video a lady posted where she sent an itemized bill for a playdate. She charged her for sitting on the couch (wear & tear), her snacks, every juice box, flushing the toilet (water), craft supplies, and she accidently broke a toy. I'm sure im missing stuff, but it was so absurd. That poor kid isn't going to have friends over anymore when the other moms find out what her mom does.

Well if they were staying for 10 days and the odd time they went out you said, would you mind picking up this or that... I would find that normal that they would help out. so "asking them to pay for things in your house" would not be weird in that way. That they would then send you a bill for it is super weird.

Unless they're staying for a long time, it's not right to charge for these things. Maybe have them pay for a meal if they're at a restaurant, but not a home cooked meal. Parents would be better off going to a hotel if they're getting nickled and dimed at their child's home.

I'm surprised anyone would bother visiting you with that attitude. If family or friends pulled that off I wouldn't send them a bill I wouldn't bluntly call them out in it and possibly not visit again.

Whenever I stay at someone's home I buy my own groceries and purchase extra toilet paper for the fact that it is necessary. I would never send a bill to my hosts for saving me heaps of hotel costs when I stayed in their home, especially if it is long stay like three weeks oversees.
