Wow! I wasn’t expecting this! I was in the OR for 2 months, until last month, and HATED it! It can be hard to find your place in nursing.
ОтветитьI was you a few months ago... Started L and D as a new L and D nurse, but I had nursing experience, and I legit hated it so much, I would wish for an illness or car accident just to get me out of going in. I switched to Post partum and that was MUCH better, but still not my favorite, and when I had to go to nights I was def like yea, this isn't for me, I am just not someone who adjusts to night shift. I worked a week of nights and quit. I felt REALLY bad because the nurse managers were so nice, but I didn't want to live sleeping all day every day and being exhausted all the time! You have to take care of yourself first!! Some people told me to get a prescription for sleep meds, hell will have to freeze over before I would take medications to get through my job!! Don't give up, I have a SWEET day shift job, working vascular access putting in USG PIVs and PICC lines, as well as trouble shooting central line issues and advocating for vascular preservation. Found my nursing niche, and it sounds like you did too, I think we all fall for the trap of thinking we are missing out on "skills", but I have grown to realize they are not skills I want to use! Inductions are the worst....
ОтветитьI work at an high acuity hospital on L&D and TRUST ME … i prefer the boring 😭 it gets CRAZY ! Super overwhelming…. But i say all this to say i think I’m leaving L&D as well
ОтветитьJust came across your video cause I was looking for insight on people leaving L&D I’m a new grad kinda lol, but while in nursing school I worked in a surgery center as a care tech and love the environment and pace! I some how ended up in L&D and I feel the same as you , I’m not loving it… it’s been 5 months and I feel like the peer pressure of it’s not okay to leave that I didn’t give it enough time! Loved hearing your journey
ОтветитьI don’t blame you for leaving and choosing YOU! I’m proud of you for recognizing early on that L&D is not for you. I’ve been doing it for almost a year after working MedSurg for 6 years and the L&D unit I work on is very toxic (which is my main reason for deciding to leave). I’m currently looking for and applying to other jobs and I’m at the point where I don’t wanna go back now that I’ve made up my mind and have been looking for new jobs 😅 but I’m hanging in there! Congratulations on your new job 🎉🎉🎉 and best of luck to you!! 😊
ОтветитьI strong disliked L&D. I wanted the O.R. so bad. I could never get an interview.
ОтветитьHi!! Im also in NJ and just started a job as a PCT on mother baby floor..i just started nursing school 😅
