What Alan said about Unity not being quite ideal for tablets yet - isn't this also the case with Windows 8? Where people see their Metro, and go like "this system only good for a touchscreen, not a desktop", but try going into system settings, services, administration, try adding another keyboard layout, for the sake of a simple example - and thats where you see all the classic tiny controls, making it extremely hard to do on a 10" tablet, if you are a man,with bigger hands.Unity still better :)

Ubuntu is dead. There will be no Ubuntu 15 or 16. Unity sux and Gnome 3 is a betrayal of the worst kind. Linux could have taken over the desktop. Now it will just die. Linux had the world at it's feet. But it committed suicide. Even Mint the no.1 distro is a total fookin' mess. Use all the big words you want, or intellectualise until the cows come home - A lot of people are not going to have jobs in a few months, let alone years. Shame....

I don't mean to come off harsh. I hope I am wrong. But the present direction is just bafling to me. I need to get away from Ubuntu and Mint I think and realise that Linux is more than those distros. Maybe a PcLinuxOS or Zorin could restore my faith. Just nothing in the Ubuntu flavours for me to favour over win7 at the moment. Anyway... great show... look forward to more of the A-Team and don't mind my petty ramblings... Thumbs Up....

yea on my dell duo touch screen super sucks on it..it's runs like a dream but the touch interface is way off Gnome 3 is way better for touch screen..so i just install that Environment

Your right about the massive size of Windows compared to the average Linux Distribution in terms of download but the "rinse and repeat" cycle your wrong (and I mean this as non-aggressively as possible). Windows 8 will have an App store so you will have one stop shopping like in Ubuntu and OSX. I have never once had to restart my system for drivers or their updates. With all that said Windows 8 will be interesting because I think the metro design will be huge among non-technical users.

Dear Mr Alan Pope, When is ubuntu going to address the problem of 1: web cam and mic to work in MSN Yahoo, and SKYPE ? maybe it is the key codes ? 2: We need better drivers for sound cards and grafix cards. ? If all these things were addressed now then the whole planet would jump ship to Ubuntu and linux...:-)

@jazzey69 My camera and mic work in Skype out of the box so that's a problem with your hardware in particular not Ubuntu istelf. I'm also feeling negative "Windows vibe" comming from you lol

i tried ubuntu 11.10 and did not like it at all so i installed kubuntu 11.10 seems to be a lot faster and i like it much much more

You should do a review of Icaros Desktop 1.3. I've just found out about it and it looks very interesting..
