NORMANDIE earned FF 158.000.000 net revenue when sailing for COMPAGNIE GÉNÉRALE TRANSATLANTIQUE ... evtl. Franc Francais don´t count in in USA ... And QUEEN MARY earned only money during WWII, the charter rate from USA, and after when with QUEEN ELIZABETH "alone" as the fastest ships on the North Atlantic.

WILHELM GUSTLOFF was NOT the first purpose built cruise ship. This honor is for Albert Ballins (HAMBURG AMERIKA LINIEN) PRINZESSIN VICTORIA LUISE of 1900. And for the KRAFT durch FREUDE cruises ... it was an Italian fascist idea, copy pasted by the NSDAP. They planed for 21 KdF cruise ships, of which just 2 had been finished the GUSTLOFF and the ROBERT LEY.
For the economic "success" of NAZI Germany ... it was a faked wconomic rise, based on depts, the MEFA Wechsel, invented Hjilmar Schacht, as Germany still had no money since WWI and foreign lending was impossible. The whole financial system was looking for a war and cashing from the occupied.

The dated, snobbish, hyper-upper-class-British-accented narrators of the newsreels of the day make me nauseous. It is beyond disgusting. Nothing could criticize the stupid, arrogant British class system more accurately.

Thanks for uploading these docs, very nostalgic. I remember watching them as a child and being fascinated. At school at the time we had to write our own short story, so I wrote an anthropomorphic first person account of the Queen Mary!
