Left is best
ОтветитьReminds of the book "There Are No Accidents" by Jessie Singer. So many other industries have similar problems and for the same reason.
The Boeing crashes weren't even that long ago..
highly questionable backdrop of empty soulless skyscrapers
Ответитьso happy 2 c someone in the US exposing Stairmer and his reheated Blairism
ОтветитьI'm surprised Aminah didn't mention Diagolon when David mentioned the neo-Confederate maps.
ОтветитьBasic pessimistic takeaway from that interview: the Left has been terrible at messaging and communicating both in-person and thru digital/social media means for decades; in major part because of it, the Left is pretty shit at organizing and mobilizing.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good interview with a good guest who seems to be plugged-in and knowledgable on these things, but dammit if it doesn't add more kindling to the fires of hopeless frustration. Feels a bit ironic that a discussion which takes plenty of time to denote the issues of messaging and communication ends up arguably playing right into that issue as well by potentially leaving viewers feeling like the Left not only never seems able to grasp (and keep) significant footholds of power but as a whole can't even simply talk to people in any facet (maybe that's just a me thing; hopefully that's just a me thing..).
Not necessarily a critique of the interview itself btw; frank conversations like this do need to happen to assess problems and (hopefully) eventually reach solutions. At (far too many) times it can just feel like there's nothing positive to try building with, just anger and hopelessness with no avenue to be assuaged or utilized into something constructive, no answers, no specificity on what steps to take to fix problems--or often, no steps to even get TO those fixes besides just relatively vague notions of needing to mobilize and communicate better. Really tiring to always seem like the Left is constantly stuck at step 1 of identifying problems but rarely can even take a half-step forward from there; also sucks that while I'm complaining about it I'm also embodying the problem myself while not having the skills/money/time/connections/etc to do much of anything to even slightly change it, and I know that can't just be me.
All that being said, there does at least be some useful ideas on offer from Aminah here to take those next steps, so this interview itself is actually doing decent at that, especially towards the end; more of that please, from LR and the Left in general.
If you combine the worst parts of the history between Harper, Poilievre, and Maxime Bernier, you’d encapsulate all of the complaints from the supporters of Harper, Poilievre, and Bernier.
ОтветитьAminah is so right about this being a fight! Too many leftists seem to think we can complain our way to justice. Great show
ОтветитьIn response to David’s monologue at the start I think Amber Frost put it best, “Every bastard deserves better.”
Ответитьthanks for covering Canadian topics, please do more of it, and glad you could get Aminah Sheikh on to discuss it. I was disappointed in the "This is Revolution" coverage on Canada but no fault of hers, it was the host I was disappointed in so this was a better antidote to that. but always remember, the right wing from the centre right, to far right, to ultra libertarian and all HAS ALL THE MONEY including all the money to coopt and infiltrate our left wing people power movements
