man im reading through these comments and i just cant believe how smart this game is. so much detail to consider

One thing I would like to point out- that I’m sure plenty of people have but just in case- is that Anya isn’t a bad nurse at all. She kept curly alive with very little supplies to work with and the only thing she struggled with is giving curly his medication, probably because she is not only 4 months pregnant but also probably getting triggered by having to force curly after what we can assume Jimmy did to her.

I haven’t seen anyone talk about the meaning behind the horse baby thing at the end of the game. As Jack said, he didn’t understand the horse being present throughout the game and referred to it as some sort of branding. And it is! Kinda. Obviously the horse is the mascot for the company behind the ship (i forgot the horse and the brand’s name) which is partially why Jimmy thinks he has to take accountability for the ship crashing. He thinks because the mascot, aka the company, is constantly chasing him in his hallucinations, he must be responsible for the crash and the destruction of company property; everything on board. But why does it come specifically from Anya? It references his behavior and actions towards her obviously, it’s literally her grotesque hallucination baby, but it specifically references when Jimmy mentioned his liking of cartoon horses during one of his psych evals with her. Hence the horse mascot from the company. Somehow his mind hallucinating the unborn baby was a byproduct of what he unintentionally brought to life with his words, and yet to cope he takes the easy way out and takes it at face value. It’s a
manifestation of all his creepy and disgusting behavior towards Anya that he refuses to connect the pieces to, which can be seen anytime Jimmy is running from any hallucination horse. He doesn’t want to take responsibility (shocker!). I thought the horse line was weird initially and I’m surprised I haven’t seen any comments here about it! Granted I only just saw the video and commented, someone else could have put this out there a long time ago.

I have a movie recommendation with similar narrative and visuals to this, it’s called Horse Girl and it’s a bananas movie

Mouthwash could also be symbolic of wanting to cleanse yourself of germs without actually brushing your teeth. Jimmy wants to rid himself of responsibility and guilt without actually owning it and fixing it directly.

Yoo, the 'system failure' text that often pops up during Jimmy's and Curly's flashbacks, not only refers to the literal system failure within the ship that Jimmy caused, but could also refer to the 'system failure' within our society in regards to SA issues; the cover ups, victims not being heard out and taken seriously, lack of punishment severity etc. System failure 😭

Imagine this as a movie i played the game myself then watched this because i didnt understand half the shit that hapoened but everything i understood jack got and questions i had still r questions

my favourite "theory" about curly is that he's a doormat. he wants to please everyone and it comes back to bite him in the ass. he doesnt want anya to be hurt but jimmy is his best friend and he wants to see the best in him. he laughs when you unlock the gun case because he realizes that jimmy really is just a shit person, and that he should've done something sooner, but it was too late. he was a bystander and that was just as bad as jimmy himself, because ultimately it led to the demise of the whole crew. there are so. many. layers to this game and it was so satisfying watching jack piece it together as he played.

also, if there are no jimmy haters then i am dead. if there are no anya lovers than i am double dead.

I just wrote two fanfic shorts for this, making it “happier.” One has Jimmy not even going on the trip, and the other has Anya and Daisuke being the survivors, I wrote both of them in just about two hours. (Watched one play all the way though and wrote the stories after finishing two more play throughs, so I’m guessing about 2 hours.)

I know everyone is talking about the play through (obviously) but i LOVE how jack played, like the voices he gave the characters and all. Probably my favorite play through so far

It's honestly a really good detail on the dev's part to make Jimmy such a delusional and unreliable narrator to the point that he manipulates the player's views of the other crew. The fact that Jack thought everyone else was "bad" was not his fault. Jimmy is a manipulator and a delusional, insecure, boy. Not a man. A boy. A boy who cowardly runs away from responsibility. He blames everyone else and with the help of his delusions, he gets the player to fall for his stories too. To fall for his excuses and blaming all under the guise of "taking responsibility." It's really cool how the devs really trick the player. This is a great example of an unreliable narrator.

Everybody thinks Swansea is referring to Daisuke when he says he wishes he could've saved the kid.

What if he was referring to Anya's child, instead?

Ive watched several playthroughs of this game and i think this is my favorite so far. Great voices, great attention to detail and thoughtfulness. Thank you jack!
