Even more than this, I'm excited for Silent Hill f. The person writing that one also wrote Higurashi, so my hopes are very high.

Ok we are over doing it with the ambient sounds, No john, no we are not, Sounds Great to me! Been playing Silent Hill 2 for over 20+ years and I like what I see and hear, from a 53-year-old gamer mind you!

Always appreciated your metered takes on games; a lot of people are either one extreme side of loving something and ignoring the obvious critiques or absolutely hating something despite any good qualities. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on this as well as i watch it.

The lighting on James's hair looked kinda bad at first impression when I first saw gameplay of this and let me tell you I was CONCERNED at what blooberteam had done to this game
So far though god damn the visual presentation. The graveyard chapel in the fog particularly was a wow moment. I'd love to see this game with wireframe so I can see the all the polygons on the models of rocks and other decorations.

It makes sense to remake it though because silent hill basically started out as a response to the more over the top direction of RE 2. And sh 2 has themes that are actually mature unlike a lot of so called mature rated games these days. I know I appreciated the more serious tone after playing so many games that feel like they only got the M because of gratuitous violence and language.

Man I LOVE the way they designed Eddie. He looks fuckin FOUL. The facial closeups have been really good in general. I remember seeing James's stubbly ass face in the opening cutscene was a great defining moment in the opening that set the pace for the visual fidelity of the rest of the game.
Still kinda put off by the way James's hair looks though considering how great the rest of his face looks. I can't tell if I'm just misreading highlight streaks as shitty lighting but it's bothering me lol.

Origins is connected because he helps Alessa and meets most of the cast from 1. Homecoming is sort of tangentially related due to the town or Shepard's Glen being founded by ex-cult members who sacrificing one child every so often to keep the curse or whatever away.

Silent Hill 2, 4 and Downpour aren't related at all except for the town of course. Also 1 is definitely a product of it's time, and definitely needs a remake. Harry would need to be fleshed out more for sure. He literally has no character and we don't much about him from the first game. Also the monkey men at the end of the game are more goofy than scary.

Homecoming and Downpour are too combat oriented imo.

I know your videos for this game have been out for a bit but I wanted to be able to binge watch this from your gameplay. LOVED your playthroughs of the original Silent Hill games and I was excited to see this remake from your perspective.
Also thank you for turning off motion blur. That option always made me feel sick.
The atmosphere and details look stunning so far! Thank you for posting your playthrough, John!

While I understand the initial shock some might feel regarding character redesigns in modern remakes, I believe it's crucial to remember that these characters are often brought to life by actors who lend their own likenesses to the performance. Criticizing an actor's facial structure or body proportions feels akin to personal attacks, especially when these are inherent traits they cannot alter.

Consider the Silent Hill 2 remake. While the original drew inspiration from celebrities like Cameron Diaz and Sandra Bullock for Maria and Angela respectively, the remake presents a fresh perspective. These iconic characters now finally possess unique visages and voices, allowing for a deeper exploration of their personalities and motivations. This artistic choice should be celebrated for breathing new life into the narrative, rather than condemned for deviating from established visual references.

But hey, I'm just a happy dog with sunglasses. What do I know. 🐶👻

I didn't remember you not enjoying the Observer. I also didn't realize they were the same developer as this, either. Very different titles. Anyway, the Observer is certainly pretty sparce for gameplay. The hallways and knocking on doors were really separating the good sequences. But really just the jacking of others consciousness is what makes it so good. They are just so interesting. They could definitely have made it shorter. Or added more sequences like that. So dark, trippy, and depressing. 😅

The top 2 main things that were either removed or watered down are those two scenes with pyramid head and the mannequins which is very wrong. You don't remove the most disturbing things. You just don't do it. The remake is game of the year but it's definitely not better than the original which is the truly disturbing experience. It's so upsetting because all these people and myself are getting a cheapened version and not getting the truly disturbing experience. Everyone needs to play or watch the original. I own both now but if I own only one, it's the original for those those truly disturbing experiences.

As someone who just played this game for the first time himself, I genuinely have no idea how anyone is giving this remake rave reviews. The combat is so clunky, so repetitive, and just so tedious with how damage-spongy the enemies are that it flat-out ruins the game. Me and the friend I was playing it with quit after the hospital because having to do almost the entire hospital (whose map was changed to make it needlessly huge), you get dumped into the otherworld hospital and have to do almost the entire dungeon all over again. I don't remember the original SH2 being this insanely tedious? Was it really this much of a slog?
