what is under Finwe's nose?
ОтветитьThis episode was BADASS🎉🎉 🎉🎉🎉
ОтветитьThe gods literally didn't let the sun or the moon rise in the sky until Fingolfin arrived in Middle Earth to fight, not Feanor who was supposed to be the most powerful elf(Noldor anyway) to ever live.
ОтветитьTolkien mentioned the holes morgoth made with his great hammer but he didn't mention the trench made be fingolfins balls of steel when he rode to the fight
ОтветитьMy two favourite people in tolkeins legendarium. Fingolfin and hurin.
Ответить“On the one hand” lol
ОтветитьTHANKS FOR THE ADVERT BROUGHT BACK A GLIMPS OF MY CHILDHOOD ❤
Ответитьthe more i learn about the simarillion, the more i hate morgoth, he really sucked
ОтветитьTeleri, not Vanyar
ОтветитьHelkaraxe actually sounds like the sound of ice clashing together
ОтветитьThat bit about the pet makes me wonder if that was what Omni-Man was getting at...albeit in the latter case, he worded it in the worst way possible.
ОтветитьSo Fingolfin and Finarfin are Vanoldor Elves, lol
ОтветитьI can't even imagine how Feanor could have ever thought that he was the good guy. It makes no sense.
ОтветитьGive Fingolfin his rematch vs Melkor
ОтветитьMy favourite elves are clark's galadriel from rings of power and legolas from the movies, legolas because he's pure eye candy. As for Galadriel, I loved her uncompromising drive to destroy Sauron. That she wasnt listened to can be compared to the likes of Tuor not being listened to in the Simallarion or other warnings ignored, as with the siege of Angbad. Then once Galadriel found Sauron, I enjoyed the interplay between them. It changed them from being mere cliche characters to actual flesh and blood people. Tolkien's style of writing does tend to turn all these heroes into stereotypes, dehumanising them a little. Tolkien remedies this however with the hobbits. Rings of P did it with Galadriel and Sauron. I saw none of the wooden acting and lack of character development that others claim exist in rings of p. And I've truly come to despise Blanchett's Galadriel. In the movies, she looks like she forgot to take her meds most of the time. Cate Blanchett is undoubtedly a great actress, but I didn't think she was right to play Galadriel. Clark is and always will be Galadriel for me.
ОтветитьFeanor is the exact Eldar mirror of Melkor. His many gifts. His pride. His ego. Feanor and Melkor, both the most gifted of their races were also poisoned with pride and conceit. They are their own downfall from day one and likewise any who follow them.
ОтветитьWait, the shipwright is an elf with a beard?
ОтветитьSuicide, never on his mind. Fingolfin took his despair, his rage, and chose to face the heart of darkness. The elf king rather than be crushed by the darkness, chose to ride out and prove the dark is not all consuming. Even if a star, glittering and gorgeous, falls hope endures. The sun will rise and the darkness will be chased away.
ОтветитьFantastic
ОтветитьI swear, every time I see one of your videos I grab The Silmarillion from the shelf afterwards and read a few chapters.
ОтветитьI paused your video to go and watch the Milky way ad again, both red car/blue car, and satellite/meteorite!
ОтветитьHugo weaving made elrond the coolest elf
ОтветитьMy favorite elf! Glad to see some more Fingolfin love. Easily the scenes I want to see most in live action are the Dagor Bragollach and his 1 v 1 with Morgath afterwards... please blessed Eru, give us this one thing!
ОтветитьFëanor, the original ass ^^
ОтветитьBest scene in the history of literature? ...yea best scene in all literature.
ОтветитьMorgoth vs Fingolfin, Str vs Dex build.
ОтветитьIronic how many people find inspiration from Tolkien's work, yet at the same time despise the religion/faith where Tolkein was inspired.
ОтветитьFingolfin is the king that would have lead middle earth to peace and prosperity. People like to follow their flaws and side with idiocy over admitting the weaknesses which already exist. The flaws of Mordor
ОтветитьYeah, Fingolfin is the definition of cool. I don't now how anyone can read The Silmarillion without rooting for him.
ОтветитьThat's going to be awkward when Finwe takes a ship back to Valinor - gets off the ship greeted by his first wife ; 'who the f**k is she?ummm
ОтветитьGlorfindel!!! GLORFINDEL!!! Heroism, death, resurrection, uber wise and powerful, very ancient. Cirdan also deserves a mention, giving his ships to others and staying until the last elf (dwarf-Gimlli went with Legolas who built their ship himself) (and hobbits Bilbo, Frodo and Samwise as they are Ring Beaers) who wishes to depart has done so and growing so ancient he wears a long beard. Glorfindel has such a fascinating story. I'm not saying no to Fingolfin, definitely a very cool guy but selfless? Kind? Virtuous? I guess it depends on which pieces of the Legendarium resonate with you.
ОтветитьAgreed. Fingolfin's ride to fight Morgoth is the most epic piece of writing I've ever read. My favourite creation of JRT Tolkien.
ОтветитьThis may be one of the best videos about Tolkien’s legendarium. The stories are brought to life when coupled with videos like this.
Again I thank you for the education and entertainment. Those being the two category into which all human activity falls. Everything we do or that happens to us is either learning or having fun or both, but never neither.
I hope you always enjoy your work even half as much as I do.
You know, some people notice that Fingolfin didn’t really take on a Vala, let alone the mightiest Vala at full power, since Morgoth was little more than a glorified Maia at the point of their duel… and those people are indeed correct.
But, in a way, I think Fingolfin did face off against the full power of Melkor. And WON! Because where did all that power go? What became of the huge energy difference between the original Melkor and the weakened shadow that came out to take Fingolfin’s challenge? Well, as we know, that power didn’t just vanish: it literally became EVERYTHING that is evil, corrupted and wrong in Middle Earth. From the literal monsters spawn within Angband, to the shadows of pride, cruelty and fear lurking within our hearts. There is a little bit of Morgoth within all of Arda’s creatures. Every Man, Elf or Dwarf. But by so openly defying him, by showing up at his doorstep and calling him out as the miserable coward that he is, by displaying such an insane amount of bravery… Fingolfin basically took his own “inner Morgoth” and squashed it like a bug. At that point, the fight against the actual Morgoth was just a formality. Yes, Fingolfin lost, the two just weren’t in the same weight class. But he won the greatest battle, he defeated the largest portion of Melkor’s power… by simply having the sheer courage to show up.
I just got a good laugh, must share
"As Faenor holds his sword to Fingolfins breast and says- cuts to commercial "what do you know about wind turbines?!"
"Tell me, do you bleed?" -Fingolfin
Ответитьi really like these longer format tolkien videos and the level of detail seems to strike a nice balance - subscribed!
ОтветитьI always thought Fëanors death was badass because blind rage fueled him but Fingolfins is WAY more badass because it’s pain of loss/vengeance for loved ones. I need to read the Silmarillion again 😭
Ответитьimagine fingolfin as a valar. there would be no misery in lotr. he would kick margoth's and sauron's ass. stil cant get why eru didnt let tulkas did the job to fix the margoth and sauron problem.
ОтветитьI like to think that the whole Helcaraxe story was inspired by Amundsen's and Scott's shenenigans going on in Tolkiens youth.
ОтветитьAll of Valinor: Feanor, what do you have there?
Feanor: A KNIFE!!!
Valinor: NO!
This channel deserves 1M subs the least
ОтветитьFingolfin has always been my favourite hero. He has personal strength and power, still was kind of ”decent” balancing hes unstable halfbrother. He was the only brother the noldor could really put their full trust to (Finarfin bordering to qualify as weak, in my opinion) in the matter of being a leader.
ОтветитьAwesome video
ОтветитьSometimes Id like to think that the use of fin in some elves names was inspired by the fact that Finland was fighitng a war with soviet union during the time when tolkien was writing these stories. I know Quenya was more or less inspired by finnish language and tolkien liked finnish national epic so I would argue that the idea isn't too far-fetched
ОтветитьCROSSED THE JAGGED ICE AND AS HE STEPPED FOOT IN MIDDLE EARTH A MOON ROSE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MIDDLE-EARTH, AND THAT MORNING ALSO SAW THE FIRST SUNRISE!!!!!! FINGOLFIN IS THE BADDEST THING MIDDLE EARTH EVER SAW
ОтветитьSimilar to the Mahabharata because all of the choas stems from the fact that the king was not contented with the raising of his first son when he lost his wife and sought to marry again.
ОтветитьI've always been partial to Glorfindel.
Ответитьi cried, and i laughed, was excited and curious, watching this for 2nd time.
dave we have never met, i`m half way across the world and i have to say i`m so happy you exist. i`m so happy this things of value you created exist, this has given me so much deep, meaningful plessure moments.
thank you so much
