I’ll never forget… the sheriff giving the KkK an escort through Roxboro, NC….not too long ago SMDH. I’m 39 and a Durham native💟. STILL, I deeply love North Carolina….it is such a beautiful place with rich history and culture.

My entire moms family is from NC. I’ve been able to trace them back to the Northampton county, Verona Plantation which was owned by a NC state senator named Matt Whittacre Ransom, this man owned some of my ancestors whom shared his last name! circa 1700s, Rich Square,NC where there was a lot of tobacco plantations and Somerset plantation where I found out where my moms maternal grandfathers side got their last name “Collins” from. I even found out that there was a lot of intermingling between members of my family and the native Americans going as far back to 1700s era Virginia, and even some whites. I also found out North Carolina had a huge population of free blacks including one of my great uncles Miles Lassiter way up the line whom was one of the only black quakers in North Carolina and was a free black man. If you haven’t don’t it do your ancestry! The things you find out about your ancestors is like a movie!
