An excellent Karate movie! Without a doubt, I thought it was really well done BUT! if you're going to say it depicts the life of Mas Oyama, it is only very loosely based on that. The character should have been a muscular stocky Korean and not some little fellow. Oyama's Style was part Okinawan Goju-ru and Shotokan, an amalgamation of these two, because his ego wouldn't allow him to just be a follower of someone else's Style he had to start his own!
The "Bull's" in real life were not these massive Spanish Bulls used in Bullfights but some young Oxen who were already softened up with a sledge hammer so that Oyama could easily take the Bull by the nose ring, pull him to the ground and complete an already cracked horn. I've seen the original black and white Japanese film!
Oyama's new style was a brutal full contact Kumite fighting which was harsher than most styles of Karate. Oyama knew how to market his Karate with books and new Dojo's all over the world. At the age of 12 I bought his big book called "This is Karate". It was an expensive book and it played a big part in sending students to Japan in the 1960's. Oyama became a world wide sensation and died in his mid 60's of stomach cancer. Now he's worshipped by tens of thousands and continues to have lots of Dojo's throughout the world.
