So we do know that rats cant fly, & we actually don't know that ghosts cannot bleed or manifest blood. We don't know anything about ghosts, however there are cases of hauntings where anomalous blood does appear on ceilings & walls.
Ghost- 1
Rat- 0
In summation- Twain must not have known that neither rats or wood could fly. It seems like something is being overlooked here. Or dismissed based on flimsy terms. Perhaps Mark changed it from a floating piece of wood to being rat cargo in order to maintain some credibility. To not appear insane, he was in turmoil at the time so stating that he'd shot a ghost that bled was prob a bit much. Nobody ever wanted to be committed & sent to Pilgrim State or Bellview in NY back then, but that's what happened to so many people
