I had searched the skin aqua to buy on eBay but there are so many different packaging (blue, pink, white, yellow).. not sure if you recommend all of these or just the yellow one?

Hi Dr Dray, I am seeking a SUNSCREEN RECOMMENDATION for a very complex situation. I am 31 yet still have rather acne prone skin and I also have melasma/chloasma (it first started when I STOPPED taking the OCP a few years back (?go figure) then got much worse during a recent pregnancy). I live in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia. The State of Queensland has been dubbed the skin cancer capital of the world. It is also insanely HOT and HUMID for at least half the year. I HATE wearing sunscreen in this climate due to the horrible oppressive feeling on my pores and also the awful breakouts that follow each application, however I know that without sunscreen my melasma will of course get much much worse. I only have the melasma on my face (thank goodness!). I've seen a dermatologist - consult lasted about 3 mins, I don't think words and conversation are his thing. Almost seemed to be blocking any questions I might have with his bedside manner. He gave me a script for 5% hydroquinone 4% kojic acid 0.1% tretinoin 0.1% dexamethasone in liquid base which I had made up by his favourite compounding pharmacy on the other side of the country - they have perfected their recipe over many years. After 2 applications before bed on 2 consecutive nights and aggressive sun protection afterwards my whole face peeled off, turned bright red and drove me crazy with a horrible burning sensation. I know redness and peeling was to be expected but I had no idea just how severe it might be. I called his office and didn't get to speak with him but was issued with a new script for the same thing minus the kojic acid. Got pretty much the same reaction after going through the same process again and am terrified I've now made the malasma worse with all the inflammation to my skin. I'm now trying to gradually expose my skin to this treatment and have tried putting it on for 30 mins on 2 consecutive days but am really wanting to find a sunscreen to use which will provide adequate coverage without causing further acne breakouts/inflammation and in turn more melasma. After watching this video it would seem that Mentholatum Skin Aqua UV might be the best option for me. What do you think? Are there any others you can recommend? In terms of skin tone I am caucasion/fair but tan fairly easily and at the moment my face doesn't look very fair due to all the melasma. I don't like the white cast look or the sensation of a heavy layer on my skin but would be willing to deal with these things if it meant a breakout was much less likely with a particular product. Sorry for the very long winded message but I would LOVE LOVE LOVE any recommendations/advice re: best sunscreen options for my face. PS. I will of course continue to follow up with my current dermatologist while using the hydriquinone/tretinoin/dexamethasone though so jealous of the patients who have access to you as their dermatologist.

Hello Dr. Dray!!
Hello Hyram!!!
Is there a chemical sunscreen for oily skin without alcohol or perfumes? I suffer from seborrheic dermatitis, therefore my skin is extremely sensitive and oily. I have tried many mineral sunscreens, but they all leave me with that terrible white cast. I have recently tried the Purito Comfy water, but it was impossible to reapply it during the day. It was terrible! I am desperate to find a chemical one because these types of sunscreems are often invisible and can be reapplied more frequently without a problem. Unfortunately most of them contain alcohol or fragrances. Both irritate my skin excessively!!
Many thanks

I have bumpy and combination skin. I use liittleextra riceberry SPF 50 PA++++ since I commute to work and stay outside for several hours. Its non sticky and does not leave a white cast. I apply it about 15-20 minutes prior to going out in the sun. This sunscreen has received some awards as well. I highly recommend it for a climate like ours.
