Sounds like horses are slave to the lessee. "For $350 a month her and the kids can go ride it whenever they want, which is a lot of fun." Horse: FML.

I'm on the wife's side here. The husband makes over $100k a year and has $20k in debt. His wife homeschools, stays at home, and deals with kids all day! The horse is her outlet and her peace. Let her have it. Sheesh, the husband is petty here for sure.

FIRST OFF.... He works she stays home and takes care of the entire house... That is her job! She does NOT need to pay for this tiny expense for the family to enjoy the horse especially when she goes out twice a week! You are done paying off your debt in 9 months with the horse expense so I do not see a problem. You spend a year with an animal you connect with that animal its not like this is a machine. Second You "husband" purchased this lease WHILE YOU WERE trying to get rid of the debt anyways so No she should not have to pay the price for you putting this into her life! If you want the debt to be paid off faster then you pay for it in our opinion.

For these folks, their debt isn’t too crazy. They’ll be out of debt in 9 months. Surely there is leeway for $3500 total, which will not overly intrude on their getting out of debt. People spend waaaay more than $350 each month on stupider things.

Let the hard working lady keep the horse. Treat it not as a lease, but an expense. Therapy is a lot more expensive mind you.

Just think of it like a gym membership and two wine brunch. Not breaking the bank here. He makes $120k gross, call it 80 net. A thousand a month at the debt probably gets them out in 2 years. That's a snip

Ok. We homeschool, and have a budget. We’re getting a horse as soon as the truck is paid off. I grew up with them, I know the costs and quite frankly, I need the out. I’ve tried every other hobby and this is what works. Get the horse! And buy, don’t lease.

I've leased horses before, and man I miss riding them. Firstly this sounds to me like a partial lease, secondly I wouldn't suspend and try to come back to it because there's a lot that can happen with that. Thirdly do not underestimate the positive power a horse will have on a person's health (physical and mental).

All for being intense to get out of debt, but in this situation with their income and not a ton of debt left, I'd say keep the horse lease. 9 months at $350 is just over 3 grand total that they would save. Basically it'll take one month longer to pay off the debt. Big deal. It's not like they're talking about getting rid of a $60,000 car or something. Could easily cover the cost with a side hustle for a couple weekends or sell some stuff around the house.

I homeschool my son and I also work for the Irs 40 hours a week plus an additional 20 hours for overtime so it’s like two full-time jobs. I think it’s important for her to get out and have some me time and for $350 a month bonding with a horse is a great ideapeople spend more than that going out to eat or shopping or other things so I think she should be able to keep the horse

I am a horse owner. She should keep the lease on the horse. Leasing a horse is very common and much less expensive than owning. $350 per month to ride the horse as often as she wants is very reasonable, and not only a great way to emotionally recharge and enjoy quality time with the kids, but also great exercise. If she can find some extra houses to clean to help offset the expense, that would be ideal, but I would not deny her this enjoyment. It is also very likely that if they dropped the lease, the horse owner would lease the horse to another rider and the wife would be out of luck. She has also probably already established a strong bond with this horse, so I understand how ending the lease would be emotionally difficult for her. husband makes good money and they can take a few extra months to pay off the debt. It seems to me that the real question is why the husband did not pay his estimated taxes for an entire year.

Keep the lease. Not every decision has to be made with dollars and cents. The mental health of your wife is more important than the extra saved from this lease break.

$23k in 9 months is $2555 a month. $350 a month for 9 months is $3150. So they're literally talking about the difference between 9 months and 10.25 months to get out of debt. 5 weeks of debt for your wife's happiness, comfort, and a break from the kids? Worth it, dude. Keep the horse lease.

Keep the horse if it’s her mental health, if not things u get on broad with her by giving up your hobby or ur stress reliever to show u really support her, and not just attacking the one thing that brings her sanity.

Sounds like y’all have a spending problem, if all u have is $8k in debt why take a loan for $15k when u make $10k before tax and about $8k after tax. But all in all $23k over a 12 month period is $1,916. 67 a month u still have about $6k per month left I don’t see the problem, I believe this was a fake caller the math not mathing
