Good information! He is a "pickpocket" I would like to meet just to be physically aware of how it works.
After watching many videos of real pickpockets in action, I have noticed a few things:
*the victims are often not observant of people around them and are not on their guard.
*surprisingly often the victims carry valuables on their backs and often even in a pocket without zipper.

A good way to avoid becoming a victim of pickpockets is to not let strangers touch you. Keep your distance whenever possible.
Don't shake hands with strangers if they're happy to start talking to you on the street.
Don't stand and talk to people who approach you with a map and ask for help.
Keep your phone and wallet in a pocket that's not easily accessible and has a zipper where you can always feel the pressure against your body. Tight pockets are best for this.
Don't place your phone or wallet on a table or counter in an official place, unless you're alone and no one is around.
If you're in a crowded area with a bag, place it between your legs or behind you against a wall so you can always feel it against your body.
