My dentist uses a computerized grinder to produce the crown based upon images of your actual tooth and it's done in 40 minutes. Modern tech, dude.
ОтветитьThat mimicking/learning from the artist idea is great. Like you said you couldn't put the same time into the complete model that the original painter did however you could take the same model and say something like "today we're going to try and replicate the cloak from [insert artist A here] on [insert model A here]", "this week we're going to try and replicate the face from [insert artist B here] on [insert model B here]" etc etc.
ОтветитьI get really good painters will still be really careful with contrasts/speed paints but I really do think the AP Speed Paints will be a game changer for many, particularly with the cost vs GW and the apparent consistency. Obviously many on this channel want to put time into painting but there are so many that would prefer not to play their regular boardgames with plain plastic minis. For those gamers a simple white/grey spray undercoat with a heavy Speedpaint layer with no touchups or highlights will be more than good enough for many. I'm thinking of gamers who want to quickly paint their 150+ War of the Ring (Ares Games) minis or minis from games like Judge Dredd Helter Skelter. Spend a few hours, paint the lot and never touch them up again. Or games that come with 8 to 10 minis I can see them being speed painted in under an hour as part of the cardboard punchout and organisation process. Basically every mini game would look 10 times better with minis painted to the basic Star Wars X-Wing quality.
ОтветитьNice episode again. At the end you are talking about somebody who goes really strong with contrast paints. I can't really understand the name. Can anybody give me a link?
ОтветитьNow thousands of people know I have fake teeth... Thanks Jon...
ОтветитьCan somebody link some information to the contact painter that Jon and Scott talked about?
ОтветитьWell done to Jon for reaching 100K subs!
ОтветитьWho wrote “the moon rules” on my painting desk!
ОтветитьFuck Grass, based take. Not the fun grass though, we're still workin on getting that stuff in MN.
ОтветитьHot damned those VHS game expansions are cool.
ОтветитьThings only a miniature painter would excitedly say: “Look at that rust bro!”
ОтветитьHey Scott, about the fake grass... speaking as one who has done it - replaced real grass for pretty realistic looking fake grass (we were forced to) - the substitute for mowing the lawn is raking the leaves off it - if you leave them on there for too long the turn into mulch which eventually ruins your fake lawn. There will always be a chore to do...!
ОтветитьWhat if for a more detailed project, like Jon is talking about, it was filmed over a few weeks, and then the video itself is footage at 2x or 10x speed, still edited down some, and maybe slowed to normal speed to show off certain details with a voiceover? It couldn't be an every week thing but maybe one video a month could be a more in depth project, or even every 2 months etc. Something you could set some time aside to each day or week to work on, but doesn't keep you from getting out a regular video each week. It could be its own series of some kind, Painting for Smexy Display Pieces, Beautiful Busts etc
ОтветитьThe VHS tape boxes are great, but...it's also clever. Many small miniature companies used to sell stuff in them, because they're simply insanely cheap and there were huge stockpiles when people stopped selling VHS tapes, etc. So clever to use them and thematic. Nice.
ОтветитьJohn, my grandfather did exactly that: he went in and just took them all out, lol one fell swoop, didn't give af, just put all fake implants in and was done lol
ОтветитьNice! (Also my like number = 666!)
ОтветитьMuch love from Columbus, my friends and I are all big fans!
Ответитьhahhahahaha "Who eats popcorn balls?" That was hilarious.
ОтветитьPre-ramble: Plant clover, eff grass.
Ответитьoh my gOD THE EXPANSION BOXES AR-- Scott's enthusiasm leaves the human hearing range.
You cannot fake this kind of hype. So good.
Might be worth noting that if your LLC is only one person, then the taxes are applied to that individuals federal taxes...
ОтветитьWhat was the painter’s name that was named for being great at painting KIngdom of Death miniatures?
ОтветитьI can’t believe that they haven’t come to the conclusion that small cookies should be crunchy and large cookies should be soft.
ОтветитьSquidmar is doing a series like Scott said he wanted to make with his Manta diorama project. Personally I find it WAY more engaging than the usual "one off" videos.
I cant speak for others but I personally would love to watch you "full time" hobbyists do huge projects that us normies can't create with our regular jobs and hobby time. I think it pushes the hobby into more interesting territory with a narrative instead of watching everyone paint the newest kit that's come out over and over.
"So here I was sitting in a chair getting drilled in the mouth for over an hour..."
ОтветитьLove the so flat range, it has a hard time sticking to my vallejo primer, but not sure if my bottle has gone bad.
Ответитьdudes. Your not like Tom Hanks. You don't go to an island with kids on it for 'reasons'. At least I hope your not like Tom Hanks
ОтветитьI'd watch the shit out of a multi-parter from either of you guys. Squidmar's monster Tau diorama gets 200k+ views per installment, and the ones he makes in between get like half the views. Granted, that project is insane, and maybe that's why it's so compelling to watch come together.
ОтветитьThe Mob: Just do what you want!
The Mob the next video - "Skip - He's not doing what I want"
Don't know if you guys have seen the cmon game Anhk Gods of Egypt. They have some amazing minis i would love to see you paint
ОтветитьYou two are number 1
ОтветитьSo on the teeth talk. I had to get my entire top jaw replaced with implanted dentures. It was about a 4 month process and cost about the amount of a new car. I do like them now and it has improved my life but it was a long process.
ОтветитьTrapped under plastic : podcast for the painted spoon collectors
ОтветитьYou have 20,000 people literally sitting and watching you talk every couple of weeks... if you want to do your long term personal projects, and turn it into content, do it in a podcast format like this. Either tacked onto TUP or as bonus episodes. You already have an audience of people prepared to watch you TALK about hobbying let alone watch you do it, learn from it and be inspired themselves. I'm guessing Jon arrives with plenty of time to record an hour or two of adhoc footage > record TUP > move on. If you kept the same camera setup as you do for TUP and just hobby together WE WILL WATCH IT!
For any close up/detail shots, setup a dedicated detail cam with a rotating turntable where you can drop WIP builds onto it - no need to mess about with over the shoulder cams. I can't be alone in having your content on while I hobby myself, so I'm painting > watching > painting.... I don't need stunning production values, I want more of what you two are best at - technique/tips/chat and inspiration. :)
That sculpting molding guy is BADASS
ОтветитьIronically, the ad that played for me ten seconds after you joked about being sponsored by Farmers Insurance was for Liberty Mutual, so....
Ответитьim over here painting brass donkeys
ОтветитьOrrr... Get an National Health Service like all the civilised counties so everyone gets free dental.
ОтветитьSouthwest dots are the best!
ОтветитьLove all the KY references (Kentucky native here) Lexinton KY Cain's tendies ftw, KY bluegrass, put us on the map lol!!
ОтветитьI don't know if you got your answer in these 3 months since the release of this episode, Scott, but spincasting resin miniatures can be a viable method to make them.
I remember seeing an article on the Raging Heroes website about it a year or two ago, with pictures of their machine and the disc-shaped moulds.
No see, because your audience is exclusively IRS employees is why you get away with the tax evasion.
ОтветитьAnyone got the link to that avengers video with everyone in it?
ОтветитьI wish I had hobby friends.
ОтветитьCatching up on the podcast.... I love that you talk about the larger world of miniatures, I work in TV and Film in the art department and worked on Wes Anderson's Isle of Dogs and I think a lot of people don't realise the extent of the use of miniatures!! I fully support this dying art in the industry. I think it would be great if you made something and filmed on it!
ОтветитьWhat pink robot? Is there a link somewhere?
Ответить
