Retinol is like the superhero version of vitamin A, and our bodies really need it. It does a bunch of important stuff, like keeping our skin nice and moisturized, protecting our eyes, and even helping our lungs stay healthy. You can find retinol in fatty foods like liver, egg yolks, butter, and wild fish. There's also another vitamin A sidekick called beta-carotene, found in things like sweet potatoes, carrots, and leafy greens.
But here's the trick – only a tiny bit (like 2 to 3%) of beta-carotene turns into retinol. So, if you want the good stuff, you gotta grab it from animal-based foods.
