Why sterilize compost?

Sorry to hear about Leo’s disappearance. He was a really well cared for dog like no other. Thinking of May I know she’ll be heartbroken.

My uncle was a coal miner and a big gardener and he had coal fire with oven attached and he used to put buckets of soil in the oven to sterilise.

Meanwhile the high temperature in the UK is 2C and the low predicted to be -2C😅

I enjoyed watching your little or rather modest sized garden though I have no garden of my own cuz I live in an apartment in Penang, Malaysia.

Would garlic prevent bugs as explained by a friend whose "little weed" flourished when he planted garlic. In Bangkok, unlike "up country" no bugs or mossies around the condo!
