To be really honest the engineering has beacame the plan B for the candidates matlab agar upsc nahi hua toh berojgaar nahi kahega koi.....at least the candidate can earn for living in any company or something because of course everyone is giving the exam with full dedication but who knows you'll fail or pass.......but you can't give this straight forward answer to the board members in spit of thia is so obivious so yeah the candidate have to sugarcoat it in his own way.
I am saying its obivious beacause if you have seen the mock interviews, the board members directly or indirectly ask this question to every engineer candidate which indicates that they also know the reason but they just wanna see the presence of appearance of the candidate

ofc unemployment matters a lot or plays a important role in this but besides that maybe they find civil service like more interesting or similar to engineering since what I think is engineer is someone who finds solution for problems and civil services in my opinion is like a positions where u can decide the answer for problems

Interviews are places people lie the most. They spout bullshit as if they were born to. Also engineering jobs are not easily accessible or profitable.

Most of the engineers study for semesters... So once engineering completed many of them are unemployed...to do a job we need to select a career choice out of which civil service offers more than anything
