1 possible addition to Ceatacion's observations as I've seen elsewhere on YT is that Gillian the Humpback Whale is actually the daughter of the 2 Whales from Star Trek IV... The one born after they landed back at Star Fleet HQs...

The only reason I will watch this show is because of the Voyager tie in. I can’t stand Del or the other kids. 🖖

Prodigy is excellent Star Trek! Why is this supposedly kids program written better than most ANY Trek, with the exception of season 3 of Picard, since Enterprise?

I’d like to think Jankom’s line in episode 4 “Ton inverter…inverting” is a play on Marty McFly’s line “Flux capacitor…fluxing.” And then Jankom hitting the console is like Marty head-butting the wheel to get the Delorean going.

I LOVED this season so much, not to say I didn't like last season because I did! its just having the Doctor, and Chakotay and even Wesley Crusher and the one admiral ( forget his name, but he took command of the Enterprise one time so that Picard and Beverly and Worf could do a secret mission ). Just loved the whole thing and it was really good IMO

The Infinity legit looks like a ship from No Man's Sky. Not a complaint, just an observation.

Dal and the admiral have body swapped. That’s at least enough to be on a last name basis.

I mean I appreciate the homage to Star Trek 4 with Maj'el but I was also asking. The time for the prime directive is over when they have a bird like alien and a terran in their capture. Them knowing about Vulcans is kind of redundant. They already know there are other cultures in the galaxy.

One thing though. Picard turned down Admiral for years but unlike Kirk you get the sense that he'd embrace it immediately and Picard the hell out of it. Not to say Janeway wouldn't do well but she is far more Kirk like, as this whole season shows. She obeys but does her own thing and gets results. TL;DR Picard could well outrank her because he'd embrace the whole life of an Admiral.

Great series, had to ration them so I don't binge the lot! Still savouring three to go. So many fun easter eggs. One complaint, Dal is still annoying af, predictable, and it takes me out of it a bit. I know they are trying to give him a redemption arc, but still not a fan of his.

It's hilarious that Starfleet literally gives first year cadets a tutorial to breaking the Temporal Prime Directive. Really gives credence to the whole "United Federation of Hold My Beer" fan theory. I can't imagine that Klingon or Romulan cadets would get a tutorial on building a time machine. It's like giving chemistry students a course focused on cooking crystal meth. Then they wonder why very few captains can retire with a spotless DTI record.

Though of course it might be more like sex ed. "You'll probably end up doing it eventually, so here's how you can do it safely."

You know you're thirsty when more than one character in this episode looked hot. "Yes, sir, how old are you and what's your name?" For that guy on the left in Nova Squadron. And if Adreek looked more alien and less bird-like, I'd be down for that. His voice was scintillating. I might be a monster lover, but I get squicked if they look too animal like. Strong first episode and I thought Gwyn reconnecting with her father was really sweet, basically making up for all she missed.

Dal is still my boy, Gwyn is my favorite after Rok, I might be warming up to Zero a bit more but she's gonna be female to me pretty much, because she sounds female, and Jenkom is still my least favorite. Murph is cute, but he's just there. I'm actually gonna miss Hologram Janeway even though we've got the Admiral now. Edit: And I swear, I spent 3 episodes thinking Maj'el's name was Michelle. She's fun, but I have a soft spot for Vulcans because Tuvok was my first Trek crush. (Kinda wish she wasn't Caucasian and would like more Asian/non-white Vulcans, but that's nitpicking.) I'll see myself out.

Edit: Zeff you say? We stan Zeff! I also have vitiligo (more on my body than my face), so that's great! Edit: And personal down for the trill pilot going kablooey! Can this show not keep a Trill for more than 3 seconds?

That mobile emiter could just be the most bootstrap concept in Star Trek.

If I project a hologram and a holoprojector. Then connect them... Could they leave the holodeck? Could the projector be capable of projecting itself?!

I had to take the time to just binge on Prodigy S2 before I got to Ups & Downs. OMG, this was a ride I wouldn't forget. I got 90% of the easter eggs, Gillian went way above my head, because I honestly though the whale's name of Joanne. But the Cerritos, oh I laughed for a while just remembering how dysfunctional that crew is. I hope we got more seasons of both.

I was half expecting the Dr's drop of shuttle bay 3 was to lure the kids there, overhear the plan and see the ship in order to Janeway to have a way to do the mission w/o ordering it, knowing that the kids would do it.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the way the Vulcan cadet, Marjel, basically violated Zero's mind to get all the details. This doesn't seem a very Vulcan thing to do. That's a down for me. Part of the mess she causes is down to her being a well-trained Starfleet cadet. The rest of it, which leads to the launch is down to her being young and dumb, a flaw Dal is intimately familiar with.

At the time I was angry that they've dumbed down star trek and made it just about us but I'm starting to think I was wrong!
These guys feel as welcome as old friends after such a long absence and it's pure joy to see them back at earth!
And maybe, just maybe they have learned just a smidgin of discipline!🫡

I don't agree with the down for the doctor wearing his mobile emitter when transferring around the ship. There's a very easy way to explain that one away. It's a safety precaution in case they ever get into a situation where hollow emitters are damaged and he still needs to be able to go somewhere or if the hollow emitters end up being damaged in the room he's in. With his mobile emitter, he's got back up to wear he won't be lost even if the holoemitters are destroyed.

I will say it was wonderful to see Gwen's father in a role that was not the villain throughout this season. It's a shame that because the timeline got set right again, she did not have the chance to get to know him properly and couldn't have or he would've never become the diviner Which closes the loop but it was still nice to see him acting like a real father.
