I have 2 bookcases in my livingroom side by side. My friend says why aren't you filling in all your shelves? I told her I bought the bookcases specifically so I can enjoy a few of my favorite things & not just to "fill with stuff" according to the definition of what to do with a bookcase. Like a couch with a bunch of throw pillows...why?

Over a decade into this journey, & our home I like to say 'ready for an open house' except for family photos, I really could. But, I'm an empty nester with a cooperative spouse too. So that helps. I teach my grandkids, ' if an old lady with arthritis can do this... ' and then they learn by example. I keep my interest & resolve by watching videos like these, books on the latest trend (swedish death cleaning) and the utter peace that comes with it. Blessings

I have been decluttering the last 2 months. Toys, books, magazines, clothes, shoes, kitchen gadgets, extra cutlery, extra dishcloths, old kids bikes that was just sitting around, broken pens, extra craft supplies that kids find boring, CD/DVDs, tupperwares, extra water bottles, baking molds/trays and so on. My cellar space is full now and where I live we have a possibility to put out stuff, to get picked up every 3 months. June middle I will be rid of all this clutter which was bothering me, causing stress and nagging my mind for the last years.. Phew what a great feeling that would be 😅!

I have a whole bunch of clothes that I would love to donate. I also have a lot of things like: vases, candles, candle holders, picture frames. art prints, clocks, dishes, etc etc. Pre pandemic I had planned on donating to Diabetes Canada because they would come and pick up. Well, Covid put an end to that. I don't have a car or access to one so driving to a drop off box isn't an alternative. Besides, I don't think they're accepting anyway. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what I can do with this stuff? I feel most of it is too "good" to simply throw out. I'd be grateful to hear from people who may have solutions. TIA!

As crestons wife we have decluttered alot. For the last several years. I used to replace now I don't unless needed. My needs not my wants. The only want I've done is redecorating everything else has been about my needs. I am almost done getting rid of my Christmas stuff to give to someone else. I will not be replacing anything. I will keeping a few things half of it is already gone and now I'm getting rid of the rest of our ornaments. I'm hoping we can give our Christmas tree away don't plan on ever putting up another Christmas tree stopped doing it last year. I don't miss it. It was nice not to put up a tree last year. This weekend the other Christmas ornaments will be gone. I got rid of alot of nicknacks it's been so nice. I have one long narrow bookshelf with our pictures mostly and our cookbooks and our microwave. Then we have our food pantry that we bought because our cabinets are small and don't have alot of space lot more room since we got rid of our extra book shelves and knick nacks. Don't miss that at all. It's nice to have less.

As crestons wife spring cleaning and decluttering are equally important. It's alot easier when you have less stuff to clean and yes I declutter twice a year in winter and in spring and in January. I don't replace anything I don't need. I used to but I don't anymore. Yes I believe it's better to give to a neighbor or a friend than to donate it to goodwill etc.

As crestons wife I get noticed for me minimalism led to more than just minimalism it led to letting go of bad relationships whether that is family members friends or inlaws and it has led to boundaries for myself and having consequences and not rewarding bad behavior. It has also helped me build better relationships with ones I can trust and keeping my inner circle small. Not getting too friendly with people who have a bad history of treating others badly. I don't have dysfunctional people in my life anymore and it has led to good hobbies and now practicing detachment for my own peace of mind. It also helped in paying off our credit card debt and staying out of debt and living with in our means. It has led to contentment and gratitude and more peace .

I'm about to declutter my tshirt drawer and then my wardrobe. Took me most of today cleaning out the rest of the dresser. Taking a break. Huge bag of clothes thrown out (10+ years of wear and tear) and another bag going to donate. I can now properly pull the drawers out.

I'm repeatedly watching your videos in order to hear the sentences (a lot of it i know) repeatedly, to let them sink in (somewhere in the subconscious).
That's a kind of daily preparation to having the right mindset when I approach decluttering/cleaning.
It works! (It's overwhelming, but with this "method" i am able to at least start, and see progress, because I have some ideas/steps about what to do).

Yes , I'm still decluttering .So very true , it's sp much easier! Unless I'm doing a very deep cleaning, my kitchen takes no more then 1/2 to wipe down, sweep the floor, do the dishes ( no dishwasher) before bed. CUZ my other family members work or go to school .

For anyone who isn't still heating their home by burning wood or coal, spring cleaning is an outmoded concept. We don't have months of soot residue to scrub out of our homes, as was common when spring cleaning became a cultural ritual.

The only difference between cleaning in the cold months and cleaning in the warm months is that the outdoors can be more involved starting in spring. Rugs can be beaten/shaken outside, rather than swept/vacuumed inside, porch/porch furniture maintenance come back into the regular cleaning routine, opening windows for fresh air becomes an option again, etc.

Maintaining "spring cleaning" as part of one's in-home culture is giving oneself permission to let things slide around the home during the cold months. That's counterproductive. Building and maintaining cleaning habits and cycles of decluttering throughout the home needs to be year-round to be successful over the long term. Weather dependent tasks should be the only exceptions

It's hard for me to part with books even clothes, purses and cookware I don't use. One thing has helped me start the process. Is picking 12 items to trash, 12 to donate and 12 to keep. I believe you are to do it for month. I've only gotten through 4 days. But I like the concept and will keep trying.

I kind of hit a wall with decluttering. My cement floors got sanded and are ready for paint. I have a fine layer of dust on everything. It has renewed my decluttering muscles. I keep asking myself, "Do I like or need this enough to dust and wash it." Things are now moving to my give-away box at an alarming rate!

Oh my gosh you are so on point it's amazing!!! I cannot tell you how many times I listed stuff on local sites to try to sell stuff for just about nothing and do it over and over again and ultimately just end up donating it anyhow...it's so time consuming and stressful to keep and try to sell and so freeing to just put it in a box and donate it right away...same day if possible!!! I so much appreciate your video's...thanks again so much!

I've thinking about going through my home and pick and box everything I truly LOVE or need. Then get rid off all that remains. So it's a reversed kind of decluttering? Then deep clean the house and put the items I love/need back where they belong 🦚🌸🌺 Making a start is just so hard 🥴

Now to get up off my butt and make a start. Ive decluttered in the past, but definitely need to get rid of the excess stuff in my home. Its overwhelming, I dont know where to start??? So im just gonna start small and easy items and build up momentum. Its gonna take time and effort i now realise.
