I know this bid has been out for a while but wanted to chime in. I never liked the idea on the walking dead that everyone was already infected. By then, you'd think the zombies would leave the living alone as they are already infected. But that's because it's like a type of virus and a virus works to spread the virus....but if everyone already has the virus.... it kind of makes it a moot point 😂

There's also extra dimensional aliens that conquer planets with the element in COD zom, so ur not surviving if this was the direct cause of 1 of their race, let alone a full invasion.

Any zombie outbreaks that involves fast moving infected individuals that can chase you relentlessly is a dangerous worse case scenario. Infected people who have fully become animalistic and is capable of chasing and jumping on you without any sense of self preservation or awareness is simply terrifying and dreadful. I bet even the military will find itself push to the edge if such an outbreak do occur...

With Dead Island 2 revealing the "Autophage" i think Dead Island may not fit on this list anymore instead fitting in more alongside the Flood.

Hear me out, but spoilers ahead!

The Autohpage was NOT the zombie virus/contaigon, the Autophage is revealed as a "ticking time-bomb" laying dormant in every humans DNA.
So to try and get ahead of this perceived threat, they created the virus to prematurely activate the "time bomb" which led them to the discovery of "Numen" Aka: immune people who may not just be immune, but inherit the abilities of the dead on an evolution and adaptation type basis and even aquiring telepathic abilities, ones which are even strongly implied to able to control the zombified on a horde sized basis.

This leads me to my own personal theory, that being that the "autophage" is not a time bomb, but the next stage in physical and spiritual evolution, and the science behing this is simple, the Autophage was meant to bring about the evolution of the first "super cell" on Earth.

Now, everything in game has an in-universe explanation, particularily "elemental" resistances/abilities which is reflected in the skills and special infected like flaming zombies, them being perpetually on fire and immune to fire damage isnt a gameplay mechanic twisted backwards, its because like you the character, that zombie has gained fire based abilities and resistances on a celular level.
So i propose this is a celular re-programming similar to a hypothetical super cell, but one we are were not prepared to endure, especially with the viral activator, this left most as lifeless husks, the result of a three way battle between the mortal mind and body, god like power, and the virus...

But either way, the Numen can control and manipulate the dead aswell as the living unlike the Flood could ever hope, perhaps even increase their own inteligence and litterally put their minds together.
That sounds potentially even worse than a grave-mind....

Project Zomboid on max settings its probs one of the strongest of all time. Apart from expected stuff like sprinting, perfect vision and perfect hearing, super strength and intelligence to open doors and stuff its an airborn disease that infects most of the population into zombies automatically along with it just being extremely brutal, one bite or even just a scratch (not guaranteed) and you're gone its over. Even on normal settings its terrifying and strong and they wont just die from time
