JT Crowley interview Heather Hancock author of the book, “Sister Lost” in which the main character Claire Langstrom has chosen a solitary path. However, an unexpected inheritance from her grandmother's will unveil family secrets and a historical tragedy. She embarks on a redemptive journey, as the one despised seeks the one rejected. Will Claire's quest end in joy or sorrow?
The Author -- Heather Hancock is a multi-genre writer, poet, and author of the debut Christian contemporary novel Sister Lost. Heather has lived with Cerebral Palsy from birth, but that has not stopped her achieving most of her ambitions in life, despite the abuse and discrimination she faced all fuelled from ignorance and fearful misconceptions linked to the symptoms identified with Cerebral Palsy. When the abuse levels became unbearable leaving her suicidal as a teenager, she gave her life to Jesus and found her purpose for living. Her faith is the cornerstone to overcoming the bullying she received from kids at school, and other adults throughout her life.
Heather worked in the Canadian health care industry as a unit clerk for over twenty-two years. As a Christian, her faith is at the heart of all her daily regimes, habits and this is clearly evidenced in her writing, something she has done since she was eight. However, her fascination with books and reading go back to her young days at the school library. When she’s not reading or writing, her favourite pastimes are crocheting and attending church online.
Christian contemporary and speculative fiction as well as poetry are the main genres Heather enjoys writing about most, she has three poems and two short stories published in the Coffee House Writers Anthologies volume 1: Nonfiction & Poetry, and volume 2: Fiction Anthologies (2020).
Heather presently lives with her husband and cat Willow in a rural area of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It can get very cold there in winter, believe you me.
The Book -- Two hundred and eighty-five pages depending on which version of the book you read awaits you the reader, the story is creatively told across forty-nine extremely well written and constructed chapters. The revelation that is revealed in Claire’s late grandmother’s will, would shatter any family member, for family relationships can be interesting at the best of times. When you think you know someone closely only to discover there’s an unknown part to them which they have chosen to keep hidden from you, and that invisible skeleton in the cupboard is revealed by a third party or as in this case in black and white print on a legal document, one can only start to comprehend the initial stirrings and feelings that person must initially be having.
Claire Langstrom the main character portraying this beautiful and sensitive story is a person who likes her own company, and society sees her very much as a loner, which is her choice, but what is revealed in her late grandmother’s will indicates in no certain terms she’s not alone. This revelation changes Claire’s entire thinking of who she is. The journey to ascertain the authenticity of what has been confessed will either end in joy or woe. It’s a story with themes of rejection, abandonment, and hate set against the backdrop of Canada’s early days of history particularly surrounding the treatment of some people facing a life with challenging disabilities. At the core of this narrative is a sensitive blend of faith, romance, and mystery magically woven together to create this epic tale.
