The U.S. Army's Top Secret Arctic City Under the Ice! "Camp Century" In the latter part of the 1950s, at the height of the Cold War, the US army built a secret base in the Arctic for what it claimed to be research.

Others assert that it was instead used as a secret nuclear weapons warehousing and/or testing facility as part of a top secret "Project Iceworm" with the intention of discretely placing medium-range missiles under the ice -- close enough to strike the Soviet Union, while remaining hidden from the Danish government.
