If not for long distance flying , I would only be more comfortable in a road ride car than a commercial aircraft.

What are the noises coming from the bathroom? The splashing and air escaping a small hole quickly?

Very nice presentation thank you
Your individual parts I agree with you. Other sounds are rough runway surfaces like spacers in the runway that kind of thump. Another is when taking off and landing the air frame actually bend and move. Sounds of cracking or unsettled overhead compartments. Also considering the age of the aircraft and landing and take off cycles. Etc Etc. Onward 🌈 blue skies safe travels. Thank you

Heard the PTU barking sounds on our Airbus last month. The plane was having issues and had to be powered down and restarted. 60 min delayed. Needless to say I thought the barking was abnormal and wanted to get off the plane! Wish I knew it was normal back then! Great video! Cheers

This is a great. Thank you very much for all the info. There is another noise I am wondering about. It only happens during take-offs but not on all flights. As airplane takes off and climb starts, within the first minute, there starts a buzzing sound. Its pitch gets higher as the climb continues and it lasts maybe 5-6 mins while the airplane is still climbing. it just disappears gradually, it definitely doesn't cut off all of a sudden but more like disappears into the void gradually do you only realize its absence in the cabin after some time. It almost sounds like a small metal propeller overworking. I am not 100% sure but I'm fairly certain I only experienced this in single aisle airplanes.

Man…a nervous flier would absolutely HATE the RV-12s that I fly. Those Rotax engines can be perfectly happy while sounding and feeling like they’re about to shake the airplane apart lol

The sound of the engine spooling down is the same as a car on an on ramp. The car's rpm are high when accelerating on an on ramp and when you're up to freeway speed and in a higher gear, the rpm's drop and the car is up to speed.

I love this, so helpful! My automatic assumption is that any unusual sound presages disaster. Case in point, that the overhead dinging sounds mean that one (single ding) or both (two dings) wings are falling off.
This video is very good for my flight anxiety

I love, love, LOVE that buzzsaw sound of a commercial jet as it takes off. It just screams out the immense power of the engines!!! We hear the high whirring sound of the engines, but we can hear that beautiful buzzsaw sound underneath!!! It is insanely beautiful!!!

Allie's love explaining the barking dog sound on the Airbus a320 series of aircraft.
Yes I've actually had fellow passengers who thought people have actually brought their dogs on board. And it's quite fun explaining what causes that noise.

Lmao the only sound i understood before this was the sound of the flaps (i always sit next to the window so i watch the flaps do their thing so i listen to it nd know it) and the sound of the turbulence cuz they happen at the same time as the turbulence obvs. The sound of the engine slowing concerned me at the beginning but when i flew more often i just accepted it was normal. I knew the sound of pressurization and depressurization after i watched vids and understood that planes get pressurized. This helped me understand more tho thnkss

The sounds I find most interesting are when commercial airliners pass overhead anywhere 4000 to about 8,000 ft and make this odd whooshing sound. Sometimes during a turn sometimes when they're going straight. Not sure exactly what that is but I assume that it has something to do with air passing over the airframe.

I live about 30 miles from St Louis Lambert Airport. Quite often passenger planes fly directly over my neighborhood in Wentzville, Missouri on their landing approach. I can hear an odd change in engine sounds and I've often wondered what was going on. The sound is almost like engine braking ... its too far away for landing gear to come down.
Any ideas?

Its probably worth noting that the passengers hear a lot of noises that the pilots do not.

Probably worth mentioning the whining noise that can be heard on some planes as the flaps are retracted not long after takeoff. :-)

The things i hated on all of my 8 flights so far are that people keep getting up and walking around like sit down especially on the flights from Seattle to Charlotte, everyone has to pee always and it’s just irritating. Also the cracking noises of the plane body adjusting to movement while in the air I hate hearing the cracking noises of the frame. My biggest fear is flying through the clouds how does the pilots know if a helicopter or a small aircraft isn’t in the clouds.

On my last flight, there was this horrible grinding noise that went on for about 10 minutes. It doesn't take that long to retrieve and close a landing gear.

Took off today from Fort Lauderdale & the left side engine was screaming so loud upon takeoff and getting up to cruising altitude. The right engine was not making as loud as a noise. Is this normal? Once we got to 30,000 feet - the noise stopped and didnt continue afterwards.

Barking sound to me , either reminds of an Old Ford virtual trying to start on a cold morning or someone trying to saw a bit of wood , the bit when they throttle off when taking off totally puts my head into meltdown, as an engineer that’s when I’d want to be throttling up , I’m very headstrong person , no one will ever convince me

Nice video! Some airlines use the chime (number 2) to indicate sterile cockpit is no longer. This means the cabin crew is free to call the cockpit for non emergency issues. If it will be bumpy in a climb the chime will still sound however the cabin crew will wait for the pilots to call them and give the okay.

Yrs ago I took a Korean Air 747 from Seoul to India. As we climbed out there was a terrific bang from underneath...scared the life out of me. I think it must have been a landing gear issue or something.....bit concerning.
