We Remade the Original Star Wars VFX with Miniatures

Honestly, the practical effect looks better than cgi….

Super fun. One thing I would recommend is in the shot where the falcon is coming towards camera, you should slide the stars south to north. This will make it feel more like the OT shots you are emulating.

Simple? easy?? What my aging brain heard was "Start with the whilly woo habe scabe, scale down to the magic button light and stars background, slide the value for X over Y, subset Z while singing the National Anthem in uniform while drinking a Fresca"... End result, cool Millennium Falcon fly-by!

That was better than anything from Star Wars in the last 10 years.

As good as this looks what they were able to accomplish with less sophisticated tech 50 years ago looks far better..

In episode 4 (A New Hope) I think they created the Falcon's jump to light speed as they escaped the Star Destroyer's by having a polaroid of it from behind then filming the photo being moved very quickly away from the camera. A very simple idea of conveying the jump but it worked.

I really love shots / content created practically with little CGI instead of full cgi or God forbid full AI. I appreciate more the fun and passion of the Artists creating things like this rather than anything else.

Way too many steps, it gave me a headache.

I rather have a good story with old real practical effects that does not look super realalistic than super real looking but bad sfx. hashtag more blood squib in movies.

FYI, in resolve, you would click on the color tab, add a serial node after your primary grade and press the millennium falcon button. It’s free you know, resolve. Maybe the falcon button is only in the paid version… I’ll get back to you on that.

Warum?

"just add this, tweak this, add this saturation, dis-color, remove the green-screen around the ship, rotate the image, add subtle shading, etc.."...oh- that's "all" you had to do?...(i watched this for 2 minutes, and then my head exploded)...

Honestly that miniature did it, Im sure a bigger one would of looked better on big screen, but on a laptop that was glorious.

3 months of After effect course in 6.5 minutes... wow... my brain hurts.....

How is the model maker such a pro that they left the exhaust stains on the back of the ship looking so obviously wrong.
