CANON Vs. SONY In 2024 - Which one is BETTER?

it seems that you are comparing two cameras but only using One camera brand Sony in front of you. I believe Canon is not getting a fair shake at this review. For example Canon is a Magnesium body camera with all weather seal including their lenses. You have only shown Sony going through rough weather but not Canon camera and lenses. To me by showing only Sony camera body and not Canon this makes the review visually skewed. In my opinion.

Have been a Canon user for about 18 years. I am not a "professional" photographer but want to upgrade for better optics (not overly concerned about video because I am not a videographer and really don't want to pay more for "all these video features" (which Sony seems to dwell on). Would like to go mirrorless but if I understand correctly, it seems Canon has "shot itself in the foot" by changing the lens mount to RF on their mirrorless cameras, making it near impossible to use any of my numerous Canon lenses. If this is true - if I can't use any of my numerous Canon DSLR lenses on any of their top rated mirrorless cameras then I might as well kiss Canon goodby and go with Sony. Is there any compromise? Does Canon make any top rated optics (equal to, say the Sony and in any of their mirrorless cameras that accept the Canon EF mount? Bottom line after watching your entire video. You speak in "generalities" so basically, I learned nothing. Sorry.

I shot with Cannon for multiple decades from a film A2E to the first digital 10D or D10, don't remember, but like 6 years ago I made the switch to a olympus OM the pro level micro 4/3 , loved it but 2 months ago I switched to a Sony A7riv, and i love it. Way better than the Olympus in ease of use and comfprtable in the hand. I do think the Canon was a bit more comfortable, and the dials used to be nicer. The other negative to the Sony is price of lenses. For the canon I had a Tamron 28-300mm that sold for under $600, and was a great one lens does it all, for the day you can only carry one ( but that was a EF lens, I guess now Canon has a new lens mount so Sony is probably better). Sone E-mount they all seem to be a couple $100 more for the lenses. I went to the Sony for the Megapixels!!!!

I’ve been shooting film since the 70’s. The only film cameras I have left are Canon and Olympus. I started my digital photography with Canon, then Fuji and Olympus and now I’ve settled on Sony. I still have my Olympus E-M1 mkii, which I just love and will probably never get rid of because it fits my hand really well and the image quality is very good. Same with the Sony A7 series. Sony fits my hand very well and is comfortable to carry. All of the digital cameras I have owned have very good image quality and I’d shoot any of them again. It’s not the camera, it’s the operator.

After seeing so many photos on instagram from Sony users, I wish I had invested in Sony instead of canon.. I’m about $3,000-$4,000 invested in Canon already.

I have been using both canon and Sony about 10 years but I stopped using canon because canon has terrible dynamic range in all their cameras compare to Sony

The design of Sony cameras is super appealing but 90% of all images I see from them just looked baked and edited into oblivion.

I am not 100% sure if thats a more recent thing, but there are absolutely 3rd party Canon RF lenses, by the likes of Samyang, Venus and Sirui for example. They also make very good lenses.

The issue with charging with the USB is due to the battery, not the port. Only the new battery can be USB charged while in the camera. At least that’s my experience. Oh, and you can recycle your camera batteries (not alkaline) at any Best Buy stores or local county recycling centers. Common man, it’s not hard at all.

Canon feels like a modern corporate design morphed into a camera body. It feels nice to hold and the button layout is very sleek.
Sony feels minimalistic, and the density makes it "feel" I QUOTE "feel" more premium to hold


As someone who likes minimalistic i prefer the feel and aesthetics of the Sony camera

Sticking with my Canon EOS 90D I won't have lens problems. None of the new technology doesn't impress me. The pre shooting iis just much. Not pressed about the Evf its hurts my eyes anyways. My Canon EOS 90D has less but it a crop sensor with serious attitude.

Why would you throw away the batteries when changing the camera? They go with the old camera to the new owner 🤷‍♂
It also makes sense to upgrade the batteries. It's not as if the R6 has different batteries to the R5 of the same generation.

I love my Sony a7c , it’s perfect in every way for video and I can take excellent pictures. It was just what I needed. I plan on using it for years to come. It pairs perfect with my Sony ZVE 10 lenses fit each other, vice versa

Sony and Canon are great systems in 2024. Canon always feels like home to me. Everything feels right. In addition, if you want to save money by buying 3rd party lenses on Canon R bodies, you can adapt any lens made in the EF mount (millions of lenses) and it will work flawlessly. That includes Sigma and Tamron.

Nikon displays/screens are definitely better, I had D750 and R6 II and the D750 display was more vibrant and brighter, I haven't compared the viewfinders of lets say the R6 II and Z6 I/II/III. I can't speak about autofocus, because I had DSLR Nikon versus mirrorless Canon. I may go A9 and get third party lenses. Canon lenses are too expensive and Nikon's bodies with good autofocus are new and expensive. I had new body in the R6 II and I don't want to spill money on new body again.
