These "renders" aren't even renders.
ОтветитьYou should look at the specs for the AMD Zynq ZU2CG. Their web site shows a pic of the fpga chip. This chip is a combination of ARM Cortex RISC and 103 logic cells fpga cores. The fpga is weaker than the Cyclone V 😅 If the dreamcast gameplay was running on the supersega, it was a software emulation on the Cortex cores. Guess this solved the mystery 😂
ОтветитьEven if it's real, it's DOA with the MiSTer and clones being available. I just don't see them getting Dreamcast running in FPGA.
ОтветитьFishyyyy
ОтветитьGuys, shot us an email if you want a live interview with our product manager to resolve some of your dudes, and for us to explain why the timing has been as it is
ОтветитьSucks they are doing this, but nothing surprises me anymore.
While the Dreamcast is more powerful, I wouldn't say it is more complicated then the Saturn or N64. I a lot of ways it is simplified hardware and actually easier to emulate than the other two. (Source: regular contributor to open source emu projects). Dreamcast is generally easier to emulate than those other 2, which are some of the most difficult up until that generation (Saturn is just complicated with so many chips, and we still don't know specific timings and behaviors in some circumstances which is why no emulation is perfect just yet).
Sad because I did have hopes for this thing but oh well. Hopefully the Neptune is real
ОтветитьThose two things on the back with the HDMI/power ports are a VGA out, and what looks to be composite or component output, just missing the jacks. For some reason the VGA port is facing in as you can see in the top down view.
ОтветитьNah, time to hard pass on this one.
ОтветитьAt this point (I can't believe I'm saying this) even MarsFPGA is less of a scam. They're just absolute wankers and very rude people that I don't like, but at least they're not ACTIVELY trying to scam people.
(Fuck pramod and his little drama/smear campaign towards Jotego tho!!!)
Scam or not, How do we know if this doesn't become another emulation machine like the Polymega? I'd be interested to know who actually pays to fund for this thing.
ОтветитьSo it's probably gonna be an Emulation box and they probably don't know what a FPGA actually is and are saying it because its trendy.
Ответить"Pay 3 euro now so you will get 100 euro discount later" How does that even make sense business wise😂
I think they are trying to trick as many people as possible out of a small amount of money, so that they will laugh their ass off while many will not bother trying to get it back
I'm a native spanish speaker, a game dev and I'm still confused by the linked video from Super Sega. @VGE: You definitely know better here: would switching from SD cards to CF actually help noticeably with loading times for optical drive cores? I feel like any modern SD should be able to handily outpace even the 16x drive in the dreamcast, let alone saturn's drive (2x?). I've only worked with optical drives on PSP but I remeber those things being hilariously slow.
ОтветитьI've been mildly hopeful about this. It's sad this once straightforward niche has scams and division now.
ОтветитьSeems like the Amico! Buyer beware!
Ответитьwhat sad is people are gonna fall for this madness. thanks for the heads up!
ОтветитьAnyone who gives them money deserves to get scammed.
Ответитьeverything they have shown us of the hardware could have been done by some random kid playing around with CAD softwares for an hour ...
fake it till you.... run away i guess 🤔
The board also looks to be lacking memory modules
ОтветитьIt's starting to smell like a pre-order/R&D scam.
ОтветитьI'm now 100% convinced the Dreamcast footage was running on an emulator, and under core options, they just underclocked the CPU speed so it ran choppy as hell, because there's just no way in hell there's ZERO graphical glitches and just a shitty frame rate. I'm gonna experiment with this theory of mine and see if i can replicate that frame rate that they "showed off"
ОтветитьThe real Sega Corporation's Legal and M2 be like on this FPGA powered scam 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😜
ОтветитьThat render is NOT production ready.
ОтветитьSuperSus. SuperNotInterested.
ОтветитьWell, this thing just took a big step in the Coleco Chameleon direction. I’m happy to withhold judgement until there is more information, but alarm bells are ringing.
ОтветитьHahah excellent job with the intro song choice 🤣
Ответить300-350 euro good luck just go buy the real thing for that price
ОтветитьBetween the lack of filter and load components around any of the chips, and the fact that they're using a TO-220 regulator - there's no good reason not to use a switched IC regulator at this point - ...and what, they couldn't get a 3d model for a SOIC-14 chip? And are those supposed to represent cartridge slots? They're just standard DIL sockets. Might look impressive to the layman but there's no way in hell I'd give anyone money for this sort of project based on these renders. I'd need to see a whole lot more.
ОтветитьScooby Doo and Shaggy rip off the mask from the SuperSega to reveal it was Fonzie all along. He yells in French, “And I would’ve gotten away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling video game esoterikids.”
ОтветитьThat intro music 😂 love it!
Ответитьa thorough breakdown as can always be expected, but i did miss the junior memeing :^(
ОтветитьThat board was laid out by a n00b, and even if it was real is missing so many support components that it has zero chance of working. Its outright insane to put the BGA is at the very edge of ANY board, pins on that side will never be able to get escaped without running a ton of extra PCB layers and using blind/buried vias, and you're denying yourself PCB real estate to put your termination and bypass components. I was super skeptical ("maybe, if they have some sort of dream team") before, now I am 100% convinced that this is just a pipe dream and a working board will never see the light of day. Actually, it probably IS a dream team, just the literal kind of dream.
ОтветитьEmudeck built an emubox shaped like a Dreamcast. I would much rather buy that over supersega. Yeah it's software emu but Flycast is awesome enough.
ОтветитьI have worked as an electronics troubleshooting tech for over 15 years where my job is to troubleshoot PCBs that fail functional tests down to the component level. I work on dozens of different boards with complexity that varies from simple rectification circuits, up to full fledged motherboards for Windows-based computers. Many of the boards I work on incorporate FPGAs and the kinds of interface connectors stuffed on these renders.
I will be very interested to see a physical prototype because it would be generous to say this looks like 50% of a functional PCB to me.
On the boards we build, there will be many filter, protection, and bus interface parts that are mostly specific to an individual port and stuffed in close proximity to that port. This is part of the reason it looks so "off" to see all that blank space to anyone who has any experience with real PCBs.
Another thing that looks off to me: It looks like the port stuffed on the top middle of the render (when looking straight down from the top) is installed backwards so that the part you would connect a cable to is pointing in. At least that's the case if it's another form factor of DB9 port like the 4 installed on the opposite side of the board. Maybe this is to connect an internal cable, but then why would it be in line with the other ports that are clearly meant for an external connection?
The most generous interpretation I could give these renders is that they are very early "aspirational" layout aids. Please do not give this company your credit card info, based on only these renders.
If these guys have a console ready, then I've got some ocean front property in Arizona!
Ответитьaint we seen this game 3x before
ОтветитьWhen you ask people for 3$/person, you end up with a lot of people not really all that upset when they find out that the final product either isnt as advertised or at worst a total scam
not saying thats whats happening here but remember, these people are in Spain so even if you wanted your money back you would probably have to jump through hoops
stay away as of right now
Plot twist - they are running it on the "FPGA", but mostly on the ARM side of the chip. lol
ОтветитьIt's the worst designed looking thing I've ever seen, regardless of the product.
ОтветитьHonestly just happy with emulation for Dreamcast at this point.
ОтветитьIt was obvious from the beginning. Never had the the slightest expectation this device would be released. But a fool and his money are parted soon. As we know. There are even people who want to buy a ps5 bro. 🤣☮️
ОтветитьThis thing is laughable.
Ответитьso asking money to make a product is bad now?
you all think its easy to make a project like this then try it.
why do you all hate physcial users so much? just you fanboy for digital futrue. doesnt mean retro cartdige can go kick rocks.
Asking perfectly reasonable questions over here.
ОтветитьThe render doesn't even have card edge slots for cartridge PCBs. They're 2-row female pin headers!
ОтветитьThe render doesn't even have card edge slots for cartridge PCBs. They're 2-row female pin headers!
ОтветитьUsing Sega's trademark like that seems like a dumb idea. Regardless of this being a scam or not.
ОтветитьNever thought id say this but Mars looks more real at this point... yay
