Very important the idea and observation that Monbiot pointed out. I had the opportunity to have moments like that with my colleagues from school. When I remember the moments I spend outside the classroom I feel and think that I enjoyed very much those activities with teachers. Monbiot is correct to say that our education is too limited now.

Very much agree and it's not just activities outside the classroom that can help disengaged students shine. Creative projects outside and not restricted by the curriculum can also help. Children are too often forced to take on extra English or extra maths rather than be part of  activities where they can explore their own hobbies and interests, take control and develop as individuals.

I was given a huge amount of freedom as a child. I did well in school. I wonder if that was partly the reason.

Absolutely, we are breeding a race of civil servants and programmers, devoid of any connection to nature.

While leading a class for middle school children I was shocked by how many of them didn't realize potatoes grew underground. That was 20 years ago. There's a practical side to letting children experience the wild; a sense of connection. When news comes out about water shortages or soil loss it has much less meaning if it's just an abstract problem.

Our backyard isn’t very big 🙁 but couple times a week I’ll take son to the beach or Forrest , camping and I’m buying a van for overnight trips!

Children need to be in nature . My son and I have amazing adventures in nature .
