Do I know this is a day late, however I worked at FEDEX for a bit and a sort occurred twice daily typically at the airport, where packages came in in large containers, those were emptied and sent thru a series belts where the hot to some people who would sort them into new containers or onto truck for deliver based on the next location they had to go to, so a city or next state or county. FEDEX uses in the US three hubs, that almost if not every package goes thru Memphis Dallas or Indianapolis
