Jazz Tuesdays is a weekly event featuring great jazz musicians from all over the state of Michigan. Each week brings in a different guest artist and a new experience.
Now a resident of Sapporo, Japan, saxophonist Ben Jansson is originally from Ann Arbor, MI, and studied with local great George “Saxophone” Benson and Toronto’s Pat LaBarbera. Lansing locals know Ben from his time at Michigan State, during which he earned a Master’s degree in Jazz Studies. Ben has performed and recorded with Paul Keller, Sean Dobbins, Pete Siers, Johnny Trudell, Aretha Franklin, Freddie Cole, and Johnny Mathis. Ben now teaches, performs, and records in Japan, and we were lucky enough to book him into Jazz Tuesdays while he was home for a short time this summer.
Ben is backed up by Detroit’s Duncan W. McMillan on organ and Jazz Tuesdays host Jeff Shoup on drums.
